I asked him and he sent more pics of pics. Lol. (Computer illiterate) He said he was on drury 13 on outdoor channel last week. And they call him tuning fork. He also killed their MrChristmas buck if you watch that episode Taylor talks about how upset they were the neighbor killed him. I have a pic of that deer with his son somewhere. Might have even posted it here a long time ago. Whatever I'm not spending anymore time on this it's silly and I'm consuming you guys team thread. Not what this thread is for. lol Lesson learned: don't post pics of anyone's deer except your own that you know 110% are for realz. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
My season opener is Sept. 1 in KY and September 30 in WV. I normally don't hunt in KY during September as I just can't get excited that early while it is still that warm. I know that there are many like Jordan which would love to shoot a velvet buck but for some reason I've just never had the desire. I know most on here would think I'm crazy because I have 850 acres to hunt in KY that is mostly thicket, brushy areas but I continue to hunt in WV bow only areas because I consistently see bigger deer. EHD has been bad in Eastern KY this year. Really sad. Hope it doesn't migrate over to Southern WV.
Serious question guys. I will be live streaming some hunts this fall. Would you rather see them happen on Facebook live or Instagram live?
Brushed in 3 stands this morning making a total of 6 stands completed and ready to hunt when season begins. I have 4 more to do. On an unusual note I saw 2 bull elk bedded down within 50 yards of the last stand that we worked on. I am in the area that just reintroduced elk last winter in WV. Does anyone know how the deer population will react to the elk being in their territory.
Don't know for sure but imagine won't take long to get used to the new neighbors. Mulies, elk, and whitetails live side by side out west all the time.
Yup my wife is on FB, but I just can't do it. Seems to attract alot of drama. That's wild that you have elk now. I've went on a hunt in Colorado about 6 years ago. From what i saw, the deer and elk didn't pay much attention to each other. They definitely weren't mingling, but had no problem being within 100 yards of each other.
He made it! He declined again but he's a cool damn deer and may still be my #1 even though a couple more are much better scoring. Pics in the AM they're a PITA to upload from iPad.
here's the deer I call Piggy. We're pretty sure he's 8 years old. I am almost sure I had him on camera in '13 as a 14 point - mainframe 10 with short G2s and crabs on his 3s, and 4s. His 3s were easily 12". Only had him on camera 1x at night on an old Moultrie so the pics were terrible, but a "neighbor" about 2 miles away had him on camera several times in the daytime. Awesome deer. Probably 170. In 15 I had what I am pretty sure the same deer on camera, without the crabs but more mass and now with the potbelly that earned him his name. This is the deer I came to call Piggy. Only had him on camera at night but due to some personal crap I ended up not hunting in WI that year. Last season I only ran 1 camera up there and got him in daytime pics pics for the first time. I put those out earlier in this thread. My buddy saw him at about 100 yards once during the doe only firearm season. He is definitely on the decline but he's always had those ridiculous G3s...until this year. Lost his shorter G2s so now those dagger G3s became his G2s. I know it's him due to his pot belly and he is always very symmetrical and tall and with a very tight curl/inside spread. Like I said there are bigger/better scoring bucks on the property but the one I'd like to put on the board most is Piggy.
here's him at night in another area of the property. He didn't put any more growth on in 3 weeks. He's an old deer.
don't get me wrong...I'm not passing any of these up in favor of ol' Piggy. But I'd be most proud of hanging him on the wall. Lots of guys in our area have been hunting him for a long time. And at his age his time has come.
Kinda bummed out as a friend who lives close to our place has been telling me it's been raining a bunch the last month and yesterday I walked up on BONE DRY plots with barely 2-3" of growth. No idea why he would say that but if it doesn't rain there soon our plots are going to suck. No rain in forcast for next 9 days.
I think the guy on the right of those 7/23 5:10 pics may be Son of Piggy... or same gene pool anyway. Looks very similar to Piggy's 2013 pic minus the crab claws and a little length. The short G2 / massive G3 combo is a dead ringer. If Piggy is 8 like we are thinking, it is similar what he would have looked like as a 4.5. Funny thing- except for Piggy, none of the mature bucks have touched our food plots. Main plot is 90% clover and 10% some sort of tubers which are getting destroyed. 2 smaller kill plots are getting browsed but not hammered. But all plot pics are of younger bucks/does/fawns except for Piggy. I've read and heard from Bill Winke that very old bucks are much more patternable and visible in daylight than 4-6 year olds. Granted it's still pre-season, but Piggy appears to be falling into that category. Last year I got him on camera under my stand on a trail b/t the 2 food plots at 9:30am on Oct 3. My buddy saw him at 11:30am 100 yards away or so during late doe season. He's the only mature buck we saw/got a pic of during daylight all season. All these bigger stud bucks are on a travel route on a saddle ridge between us and the neighbors. My main ladder stand is not coincidentally 30 yards away just off the trail leading to a kill plot 30 yards on the other side. Going to be a great season. T minus 19 days...
Good stuff, dnoodles... buckeye and I spent another weekend at the cabin, hiked a bunch of miles, scouted out a few new spots, prepped a few stands/sites, and checked cams. Nothing to get overly excited about on the cams, but we did drive and glass the final hour of daylight yesterday.. saw a few dandy bucks in the 135-150 range -one possibly bigger. The anticipation is growing Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
