Took my oldest boy out tonight and set him up over a feeder. It was a whopping 88 degrees at 5pm and the wind was blowing 20+. We typically get a 1000+ pics a week at this sight. Didn't see a single deer.
As much as it was killing me not being in a stand this weekend, I just didn't go fight the heat. I satisfied my urge by changing camera cards late Saturday morning. The upside is I got many things accomplished that will free me up for hunting next weekend and beyond! All was not lost............and cooler weather is on the way for the weekend!
^^^ Agreed! Great plan. I actually did the same. Cleaned our house - place is definitely in the best shape it could be. Now - come Wednesday AM it's on!
Also... our team is in a great spot right now. Lots of does down already; and the best buck hunting is ahead of us! I'll keep you updated on my hunt this week!
One week until I head back to Illinois where I'll have about 6 days of prime rut hunting. Hoping to put one down!
Hey guys, Here is the video of the hunt, Pardon me in saying it hit the shoulder and then out the neck, After dressing the deer out it is a straight neck shot, I am not sure what has hit her in the shoulder, it looks like she got gored by something or when she feel in the creek bottom she got cut up by a rock, Also, I am not sure whats up with youtube, The video on my Mac is much better than youtube, Youtube is making it seem jumpy when it isn't and the sound is also A little funny, I now know the reason why I like VIMEO better for uploading quality footage
Its starting to get rolling here. I had 3 bucks fighting in front of me last night. A small buck, 120" 8 and what would of been a 140" 10 but is missing one side. Hoping one of the big guys show up soon
I am itching to get back at it on Saturday morning. We are FINALLY getting some cooler weather, with a forecast for our first hard freeze on Friday night. Lows in the mid to upper 20's, and highs in the 50's for Saturday and Sunday. I have hopes that the cooler weather has the deer moving this weekend. I start a week of vacation on Nov. 6th, so if the weather cooperates, I should be in good shape for seeing deer on the move. We still have some standing corn around us, but that should be getting cut very soon. It's close to rut time......I'm STOKED!!!
Good job on getting deer on the ground guys! I haven't hunted in the past couple weeks, but plan on hitting it pretty hard starting in the next couple days.
Hey guys, Since I am not able to hunt until Monday and then I have to work till Nov 6. I have been out shooting deer with in a Different way. Check out some of the photos I have gotten with the trusty DSLR so far this year, https://www.facebook.com/jakeratt/media_set?set=a.10152722752839878.1073741832.506629877&type=3 Let me know what you think. I have been trying to get close to that buck since I saw him in velvet on August 27th. Last night was the first time I got him in day light, But it was getting dark fast.
