Agreed - also, a clean ethical shot/kill is more important than anything else! Way to go! Let's keep it rolling team!
Checking in! I'll be back at it again this next week. Spent the week just south of cancun Mexico. I've been fishing, scuba diving, and snorkeling. We caught barracuda, snapper, grouper, reef sharks, and various other fish. I've had to much sun and alcohol.
Man, this weather is really starting to get on my nerves! Don't get me wrong.........we are in the midst of an absolutely beautiful stretch of fall weather. Cool nights, warm days, and sunshine with no rain. While it's great weather for everyone, it's not what I call ideal for bowhunting. I hunted last Saturday morning, and saw a couple of does, but nothing presented a shot. I also saw a big bodied fork horn buck, but I didn't even draw on him. I had him at 15 yards, but decided to let him walk. Sunday morning I sat until my son texted me with "doe on the ground" at about 8:00 a.m. I made the short walk from my stand to where he was hunting, and sure enough, he had a doe on the ground. Needless to say, the rest of Sunday morning was spent helping him process his doe. Both Saturday and Sunday evening I had family events, so no hunting either evening. Now, back to the weather. Yes, it's beautiful......wonderful fall weather. No, it's not very good for bowhunting. Chances are, I won't hunt at all this coming weekend. The forecast is for lows near 60, and highs Sat. and Sun. in the mid to upper 70's. It sure is comfy in the stand, but not very conducive to good deer movement. Around here, the deer just don't move during daylight hours when it's this warm. We need a cold front, and a good frost or two..............SOON! That being said....I might sit Sat. or Sun. morning if the wind is good. I sure would hate to shoot one on an evening sit, and have to wait until morning to find and get it out. With temps like ours, it would spoil over night, and that is unacceptable to me. I hope everyone is having a good week! Get out there this weekend and enjoy the hunt!
I hear you loud and clear on the unseasonably warm weather. Other then doing some scouting and taking my boy out for a evening sit in a double ladder stand I am sitting this week out in preparation for the big grind. I'll start ramping up next week and then come the first week in November I'll hunt almost every day for at least two weeks. I'm going to drag the targets out this afternoon, make sure everything is still dialed in and get some practice in.
I have a 4 day weekend guys I hope to put something down. I also have 10 days off in a row in nov. I am off the 7-17 of Nov. So I hope I can get it done for us. Corn is getting cut as we speak so it should be good
That's the spirit Jake! Good luck, and above all, be safe out there. I am off the 6th thru the 16th of November, and I have high hopes that I can get it done then as well. I believe all the crops around us will be out by then too. That, and some cooler weather should help things a bunch!
Here's wishing everyone a great weekend, and a productive weekend if you are spending time in the stand. Here in Illinois, the weather is totally nuts for this time of year. We are having lows near 60 at night, and highs in the 80's both Saturday and Sunday. Monday, it's forecast to be 85 degrees! Needless to say, I'm unable to hunt in these temps. Deer are laying low, and only moving very early, and very late, most likely during non-shooting hours. I can't blame them............I wouldn't want to be running around the wood wearing my winter coat either! My biggest fear during very warm weather is taking a shot at a good shooter in the evening, and not being able to recover it before the meat spoils in this warm weather. The deer deserve a better effort than that. So................I'm taking the weekend off, getting things done around the house so when cool weather arrives, I can hunt like a mad man!
Awesome Jake................way to get the weekend started! Congratulations...............I'm looking forward to seeing it too! You just made my weekend my friend.............thank you!
here are some pics she was small and video should be ok but kinda missed the mark. I thought it was clear but it wasnt for the camera and it was for me. Here she is fresh off the mommy teet.
50 spot for Team 1! Finally got one down this year... Not very big but I'm excited to fill up the freezer with some fresh meat!!!
Very nice job TD340! We are crusing now for sure. Cool weather is on the way for late next week and weekend. I'll be hitting it hard, trying my best to throw some more points up. In the meantime............GREAT job team........let's keep this mojo rolling along!
