Made some calls tonight just to boost moral. Doesn't appear any one is seeing much of anything.I called my taxidermist. He works directly with one of the biggest outfitters in the area so he should have a pretty good vibe. So far only one buck checked in in the 170s taken during youth season.

I've only been out twice so far, this past Saturday and Sunday morning. Saw good deer movement both days, but only saw does and a couple of small bucks. I normally only hunt a few times in early October, just to be out and getting my gear sorted out and in order.

It's usually too warm until later in the month, and things get better in the deer woods after the crops are out, and we get a freeze or 2. When the leaves start falling, it makes it easier to see them coming too. Our property is pretty thick in places!

This is good information - I've been hardly able to hunt early season; but at least I got a doe down early! Seems like every year I get too pumped in early October - the time will come!

Heckler - keep us posted on your network of calls - love the intel! :)

Well they didn't screw it up. At the same time I only saw a lil buck and a badger. I've been all over that property and had the same lil buck in bow range 3 times. Been think'n I need to educate the little guys so he lives a few seasons....

Moon was pretty bright.... Although I have read differently I am a believer moon phases do affect deer movement. My worst PM hunts always seem be on a full moon. In fact, I have never killed a bruiser in the PM on a full moon.

Back at it today, only saw 1 coon so far. Where I'm sitting has been good to me the past few years, but something seems off this season. Tons of acorns, not sure what's going on

Been raining all day here. Looks like we will get a break towards morning. I'll be going out in the morning, as we have a stand that is OK with a NNE wind. Hopefully the deer will be moving after all the rain. If nothing else, it will make for a quiet entry to the stand in the morning. Have a great weekend everyone. To those hunting, good luck and be safe!

Made the 10 hour drive back home to Illinois yesterday. I'll be hitting it hard until I drive back to Mississippi after the morning Monday. In a blind in a spot we like for the morning but will be in the stand tonight trying to bag that wide 10 I posted pictures of.

Well I secured 50 pts for the team and put down my first deer ever. Unfortunately what I thought was a doe was button buck. The decision to shoot had to be made with 5 seconds and I will be the first to admit I rushed the shot and probably should have passed. But it was a quick clean kill and he only went 50 yds. With the limited amount of time I have to hunt back home in Illinois it influenced the thought process. My nieces are in the photo.

Very nice, congratulations on a good clean killing shot. Sometimes, the shot is only there for a split second, and making a good hit under those circumstances isn't easy. Nothing to hang your head about at all. Thanks for putting the point on the board!

I hope everyone had a good week. I'm glad to see the dreariness and rain get out of here, and I am looking forward to hunting this weekend. It looks as if the NNW wind is going to be around for at least part of the weekend, so I will hunt accordingly.

I plan to be out Saturday morning, Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon/evening.

Have a good weekend team...........and for everyone that's hunting, be safe out there, and enjoy every second of it!

Won't be out this weekend down here in Mississippi. I do have a trip planned home to hunt roughly 4-10 Nov. Hoping to catch the rut because I head to Colorado 13 Nov for flight screening.
