Low of 45 tonight ...its gonna be a hoody morning hunt on my first public land hunt of the year! Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk 2
Well all good plans go wrong at some time or another, Looks like calhoun and pike counties are a bust, even though the DNR is trying to cover it up so it wont affect there license sales, alot of deer are dead, ALOT.. so those counties are screwed, My honey hole in missouri is off limits to me till Oct. 20th, I still have a few places to hunt over there thats good for a doe or two.. I still have Oct 1st in ILL by my house and have been seeing some decent bucks.. Oh well thats life, you just have to roll with it.... Good Luck to everyone who is hunting already..
Just watched/heard a guy 100 yds from me miss a doe that woulda otherwise came right to me Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk 2

Nice job Lastoneout, way to get our team off to a good start. I recently checked my cameras and have 2 very nice shooter bucks that could both score above 140 and a smaller 8 that looks to be around 125. They just starting showing up over the last week and walk down the trail i'm over looking between 1400 and 1830. Wisconsin season opens saturday and i will be sitting and waiting as long as the wind is right.
Season opens for me Saturday guys! Its time to get after it. I'm still trying to figure out this damn avatar picture too
Nothing to do with hunting but went north to my cabin to cut grass one more time and met the 2 guys from American Pickers in the town of Nebo,ill.. They were doin some pickin..
Heading to the campground near the lease at 12:20 today. Good luck to everyone who can get out this weekend.
God's blessing to all you guys tomorrow as you hit the woods. Our early doe season isn't until the 22nd this year, booo! it had been the 15th the last few years. Oh well.
Hunted this weekend guys. Had a decent weekend. In my county you have to shoot a doe first, so I'm trying to get that out of the way asap! Plus I would like some fresh backstrap Saturday evening I had a small 6 pointer and a decent 8 pointer right under me for 25 minutes. I could of shot them all day long. Good thing they weren't bigger bucks!!! Also had a doe and fawn come in late that night. The doe never offered a shot and the fawn still had faint spots. I don't think I could've killed momma anyways. Kinda glad I didn't have the option there. I'll be back out tonight. It's a long season guys, think marathon not sprint. I'm not killing myself with a.m. hunts until its prime time. A couple here and there is good in the mean time.
No luck here either; Glassed two yearlings at 150 yrds, and that was the extent of my action. My buddy saw 9 over the course of the weekend. He passed on a couple of fawns and and didn't have a clear lane on a couple of mature does. Four guys in the party and no bone. Back out for a possible 3-day hunt in three weeks. Got out of the stand after the Sunday morning hunt and scouted around for about two hours. Based on my sightings and the other sightings, we now have a pretty good idea of where to intercept the critters between bedding and feeding areas. The drive out is 2.5 hrs, so have to let it rest for a week between hunts. Looks like a frost is heading to the great lakes area in the next couple of days.
Didn't get to carry my bow this weekend. My 8yr old son did all the shooting this weekend. He got his first buck with a bow Saturday morning. A nice six point. He's got his heart set on the big nine point I posted pics of earlier. He came in 30 yards and something wasn't right and turned around left. He then came back that evening with the big six point that is about 18 inches wide with 12 inch G2's, but stayed out to far for him to shoot. The only thing i can think of was that the ground blind that has been out for over a month was getting rained on pretty hard and it was louder than the rest of the woods. Even though he didn't get a shoot at the big one in that area, he had a great weekend and just to see his face when we found his six pointer makes all the hard work we've put in worth every second. He did great he put in over 20 hours of butt time in the blind in two days without asking to go home. He goes to his moms this weekend for her weekend visitation so i will get to carry my bow this weekend and should atleast be able to get us a doe on the score card. But I've been told i can't hunt the big nine so i will be going after the bigger one on the other side of the property. Good luck to everyone and be safe up in the stands.
