Way too much pink. Double beard with real nice spurs, congrats. Still looking for that multi bearded bird.
I would ask if he could air brush head again.

I just got my buck back from the taxidermist today. There are a few spots that I’m not happy with. For instance you can see little bit of a gap around the base of the antler. And the ears look off. My question is. How do I go about telling him about it or is it to late once it’s done it’s done. Another thing the head looks way to small. Thanks for the input Image1709525879.952637.jpg

He should be able to adjust the ears, right now they are in a "natural" position, but he can change that. As for the head shape, they should have measured an A, B and C measurement. The A measurement being nose to eye distance. That is the major factor in head size, can't really change that at this point without swapping forms or customizing this one. Maybe he got his customer measurements mixed up or it just seems like it's smaller.

I would just let him know and in the future don’t take outa the shop till you look it over and talk. I’d find a new guy to use.

Good point @Suncrest08 It can be a hard thing to bring up. You definitely need to remember that you are the customer and not meaning to be insulting for critiquing. You walk in wanting to be blown away. You've waited all this time and you are imagining a work of art to hang on your wall. It’s easy to walk in with the bias of being satisfied. It takes a little time for the subtle imperfections to be noticed. With the pink headed turkey i got back, i thought maybe it was the dim lighting in his old shop. When i got it home and really looked, my jaw dropped. Lesson learned. Was the first time i was unhappy with anything having to do with this guys work. Now he is battling cancer so i am not going to bring it up. I’ll see if someone else can touch it up for me. Next time i’m going to really look things over. I definitely wont feel bad for voicing my opinion. After all this was hanging finished in his shop for a week, it will be on my wall for a long time.

Got this bruiser from December 2022 back today. Had to do some rearranging in the man cave but im pretty happy with it. Going to build some shelves to get stuff off the tv stand. I love this area because although it looks busy, a lot of the trinkets, pics and stuff are from loved ones who are no longer here. Nice to just sit down there, sip some whiskey, jam on the guitar and reminisce. @Slugger my bourbon stash is not as extensive as yours but i dont let it run dry lol. Last season my buddy's 12 yo boy shot a decent buck i guess. I mean, its ok. I dont know if i would have shot him or not………because i would be in cardiac arrest.. The taxi he used just posted it to his fb page. Wow. Props to the taxi and props again to the young lad for pulling it off. Had to share IMG_6184.png

The smile and the memories your friend's son have are PRICELESS!
Have a wall full of crappy mounts a "friend" did when I first started killing nice bucks, what a wakeup call when I had someone who took pride in their work do a mount for me. When it's something you look at every day and it takes you right back to that moment, you want to enjoy that memory not the thought of "it could look much better".

That’s not the worst price I have seen, I used a guy earlier on that was 450$, I have since moved to a better taxidermist and you definitely get what you pay for.

Yea the old timer i use refused to raise his prices. He does nice work for the most part. He is $575 but hes also probably going on 80 yrs old so i need to find a new guy before i end up with a head or 2 there and he falls out or something. I dont mind paying if its quality. I really like https://www.instagram.com/nathan.wilson.taxidermist?igsh=MXFleHU0cmV6and3cA== work but hes a bit of a drive from me.

What's everyone's typical wait times on shoulder mounts? Haven't heard anything yet on the one I dropped off in November, I still have the rack so I know he isn't close to working on it yet.

Call your Taxi, some are a year some are less or more. I would think they would want the rack by now it’s September! Don’t know the process tho.
