Man... thats terrible to hear. I have a story similar that one of my best friends went through with a taxidermist. He killed his best buck ever out in the midwest and took it to him. A year later, no word. He called the taxi and he said I have bad news, your cape is bad and the hair slipped. He blamed him for not taking care of the cape. Well... I lost my crap because I personally caped the head for him on that trip, wrapped it in two heavy duty trash bags a it was frozen solid when we left for home. it was taken to this taxidermist frozen solid. Turns out, the taxi lost a freezer and it spoiled and he neglected to tell him until later on. He located another midwest cape to color match as close as he could, but it took two years and to be honest, he did a shabby job on it. That taxi screwed a lot of people over and is no longer in business....
This "friend" did 9 shoulder mounts for me, lot for my brother and other friends, didnt realize what a hack he was, he wouldn't do the 1st Tom I killed, too busy. So I found a great guy down here in Maryland, did a great job on turkey, had him do a pedestal mount on my biggest buck, blew me away with the detail he put into the mount. "Friend" taxi would just glue to form, no detail, but he did 2 mounts for free and most I just paid for forms. Again, get what you pay for.
some of what I have, the bucks on the fence post are all archery kills. this shoulder mount buck eluded me all archery season, but i was able to catch up to him in rifle all NEPA bucks Sent from my SM-S918U1 using Tapatalk
Ended up slapping together a pallet wood plaque for him. The railroad spikes i picked up on the abandoned tracks i had to drag this buck out on. The shelf i made to display this bucks previous year shed below it. Will add some stuff in the shelf maybe some kind of vegetation or railroad rock. Will post the finished product.
Last update i promise . All materials including the weeds were grabbed from the scene of this hunt. Pretty happy with it. I need to figure out some better lighting down there in the man cave. 4 can lights alone dont cut it.
I got these for my mounts, they work great. https://www.amazon.com/Olafus-Wirel...WHWKKV9&psc=1&ref_=pd_bap_m_grid_dv_rp_0_33_i
I had the same problems, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by them. They’re good quality for the price point too.
That is awesome! I want to do a full body mount someday. May just be waiting on the right bird for it. Anyways, that looks great, nice job w/ a bow!
Not on the wall at the new house yet, but last years trophy was from my first out of state hunt! Sent from my SM-S918U using Tapatalk
