Ok yes he does awesome mounts. Have you heard of joe from natures image taxidermy. Im going to get my 1st buck with a bow turned into a shoulder mount and im kinda debating between the two, take a looka and let me know what you think.
I don't know Joe and I haven't seen his mounts so it's really tough for me to compare. I have seen several of Gordy's mounts though and comparing them to several world class taxidermists I've known elsewhere his work is top notch. Gordy's eyes, noses, and ears are VERY anatomically correct. Where most guys are simply painting noses and glossing them, Gordy is building them up with multiple layers/colors, etc. It's the little things like that, how much and where the whites of the eyes show, ear bud positioning and the muscle structure going to the base of the ears, inside the nasal passages, etc. I've seen a lot of mounts and never seen anyone that does any quantity of mounts in a year that look better than what I've seen on Gordy's. Anyone can do a show piece that took 20+ hours, but not many do this level of detail on every mount that rolls out of the shop. I've included below a closeup of the eye and the nose pad on my buck. You will see the level of detail and multiple colors on the nose with the pink and gray with gloss on top. The eye tear duct's are perfect as are the inside of the nose. I don't know the other guy you mentioned but I'm sure you would be very happy with Gordy.
Wow thats really nice work. Ive met gordy and he is very nice, and his work that Ive seen in his garage is outstanding. Thanks for the Info
Nose and eyes are what separates great taxidermy from good/average/bad. I pay a lot for mine in our area but it is worth because of the detail like Gordy did for you...well worth it!!!!
Gordy doesn't have a website. He doesn't need one, he's good enough that he stays busy just by word of mouth.
