We have a local story going on in my area that has hit the news of late and it was about a restaurant taking cash and not printing a receipt for the cash money, and i am sure that this goes on in a lot of business these days. But without taxes reaching the cities and county's,are schools and infrastructure is dying on the vine and every time a vote comes up for more money are schools it gets shot down, it's a awful downward spiral going on.

Kids deserve better, and it's not like the school hasn't been quite living in it's means either there is blame to go around.

sorry just venting a little, we had a large blowout over new tax levee for the schools last night and it's a tough fight on both sides.:o

I'd be interested to see how much this goes on in a busy bar on a saturday night. I'd be willing to bet a lot of sales tax goes unpaid by the bar.

I think they take that out of the equation (at least they do in NC). Bars here pay taxes when they purchase the alcohol. I guess the state figures they're gonna get theirs.....and they don't care if you sell it or give it away.

I suppose they could be shorting the county and the fed. govt., though.

And from the other side.... the local business pays for a license, matching social security, bennies, and all that. Those who have never run or owned a busines just don't understand how much a business owner pays. If he fails... no one is there to bail him out. Do you understand how many private businesses fail? Yup, sometimes things don't get reported. I had a daily spending allowance that I drew out of the drawer. LOL Did I pay all the other bull****.... you bet. Did I obey all the OSHA, fire marshall laws and all that.... you bet. If someone needed some time did I still pay them.... you bet. Did I comply with all Hazzardous Waste laws, maintain records, and all that.... you bet. Did I pocket a lunch here and there........ let me think about that. LOL The hard part was making sure my employees weren't buying their lunch with my money.... although, if I was around I usually bought their lunch and ordered pizza or something for the night time college kids. Did I report those expenses.... nope. If I needed $100 to go out to dinner did I declare it as income.... I don't remember.

We were happy and well fed.

NC's weird. The state of NC owns all liquor in this state. They charge the bars and restaurants a tax when they purchase the liquor......and, ALL liquor is purchased through the state (and it's not cheap).

As far as liquor's concerned.....the state (of NC) is gonna get its' due.

I realize Wisconsin is a different bird in regards to liquor and beer, but this strikes me as very very weird. So Miller, Bud and Jack have to deal with State purchasers? interesting.

    Not quite sure what this:
    Has to do with this:
Sure most businesses fail, but that has little to do with taxes IMO.
