Now that I think about it, I'm fairly certain there's an "Uncle John" on the CNN forums and his comments there always like the one our own "uncljohn" posted above and usually worse. It wouldn't surprise me if its the same person.

I read it a bit differently, the more liberal the state, the later the date.

There are exceptions...but generally the poorer states are more likely to be conservative...and vice versa

That's really weird if you think about it because liberals tend to dislike people who are wealthy.

It is weird. But I think many of the poor are rural people who are conservative. It's the poor in the cities who are liberal.

Cities are liberal, rural areas are conservative. Voting maps show this, even in blue states.. They are predominantly red outside of the urban areas.

Which shows a devastating outlook for conservatives in the years to come as the population will only grow.

As much as it sucks being out here in the middle of nowhere and divorced. I've got to say I love the country and would be hard pressed to imagine what life will be like in 100 years when probably most of the country is gone. Sure I think many of you are backwards ; ) but I know you think the same as me. As long as there is no hate I have no quarrels with anyone.

Sorry I am at a bit of a reflective point in my life right now : )

Well, remember my offer. Pick a weekend and come on down here to the "backwards" south. Like I said, there's always cold beer in the fridge. I'll have my wife fry up or grill some deer steaks and I'll teach you how to bass fish.

April 28th? That may be rough some years seeing as if we have a rough winter I don't work much from January-April.

Guess that may help though too ha

Haha, Take taxes and cost of living out of your equation and the scale drastically changes. And that's the whole point, many people are happy paying more taxes and having a higher COL if it means better schools/healthcare/roads. Fact is the area I live has some of the highest household incomes and highest ranking public schools as well as the best research hospitals and trauma centers in the country. People come FROM Iowa TO Maryland to get medical treatment. Not the other way around.

Usually.more populated cities will have more technology. You give up the country life for city life. I duly do agree if people saw their taxes going to what they wanted then people wouldn't mind as much. We just see so much fraud waste and abuse it is irritating .

You can keep your city. Been there, done that. Never again!

I don't mind paying taxes, I understand what they SHOULD be used for. My problem is paying more and more taxes so the government can piss them away on pet projects and other BS that most people don't want or need. Obamacare spent over 700 million dollars on their advertising push to get people to sign up for healthcare. Basically the only people singing up are people who will qualify for huge subsidies to cover the cost of healthcare. They had roughly 7 million people sign up by the deadline. That's $100 spent per applicant. That doesn't seem like the wisest use of my tax dollar.

Once again you are wrong. Iowa has nationally ranked hospitals and if there is an area where more expertise is needed we go to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, not Maryland. Maryland is ranked 19th in healthcare, Iowa 2nd. In roads, Maryland is ranked 40th, Iowa 33rd. Taxes - Maryland ranked 31st, Iowa 27th. Cost of living - Maryland 43rd, Iowa 19th. Education Maryland came in 1st with Iowa at 33rd. But overall, Maryland still is 30th (bottom half of nation), with Iowa at 20th (that would be top half). So if you are happy paying more and having a higher COL because you think you have better healthcare, schools and roads, you are getting ripped off.

And why would anyone of intelligence take the taxes and cost of living out of the equation when looking at quality of life? That would be like buying a car to get around in without buying the engine. That may be a coping mechanism for people in Maryland since they are ranked 42nd in the nation for safety from crime, or in other words, Maryland is the 8th most violent state to reside in.

Something didn't sit well with the map, it gives people a false reading because of all the other taxes you pay. I put most of the stuff I buy on a credit card and pay it off at the end of the month, My credit card statements have a handy feature that separates out the tax on most of the purchases. So I plugged in that number added 10% to it for cash buys. Then I figured out what I actually paid for property tax after the deduction and came up with my real tax free date of MAY 17th! More then 3 weeks past what the map states.

Disclaimer: I know probably missed some stuff in my calculation but I should be close. Sales tax is still a tax and I don't see it reflected in the map
