I won't say that they are a bad head. My reasoning for using them last year was that I had the KE to burn, I may as well use it. The problem I had was I bent nearly every one I had at the ferrule. With all the talk of not having enough KE, I say you can have too much for alum ferrule BHs. I haven't settled on something for this fall, but if they came out with a 100 grain steel ferruled 1.75 cut two blade, I would think about shooting them again. Let's not forget that Chuck Adams, America's number one bowhunter, says "It's like throwing an axe through a deer."
Well the only gripe i had with them is them opening up in the quiver. BUT i never used extra bands around them. Ill use them again this year as i have love  for them as of now :d IMO They really shine when using them on turkeys. Here is a Doe i shot last year, this is the EXIT hole in the shoulder, complete pass through using a light 352 grain arrow, and a massive blood trail.
I can't wait to shoot a deer with the grim reapers. I don't hear them getting much press however, less to worry about than the rage. Of course, I have both and will shoot both this year. Why not go with the rage. My reason....when your stalking in brush, they catch on everything. When you nock and arrow, you need to worry about checking the blades to make sure they are closed and snug. Let us know which you pick.
I'd look at it another way instead of asking "why shouldn't I switch to them?" Look at it like "Why should I switch to them?" Whats wrong with my current setup that I need the rage? What advantages will it give me over my current head or does it just introduce other unnecessary factors into the mix, like blades not opening?
368 grain arrow, 43lb draw. Complete passthru. This is the exit on this old doe. Massive blood trail but I didn't pay a lot of attention to it because I climbed out of my tree and walked over to the deer. 3 blade, 125 grain muzzy. 32.00 for 6 heads. heh heh heh
My ex shot them last fall. Two dead deer-two bent ferrules. That's too much to spend on a one time use broadhead, IMO. The set screw on the third head stripped out, making it impossible to sharpen the blades-which were no where close to sharp out of the box. I was definitely not impressed. As easy as the Rages I played with opened, I can't see them not opening, but I can absolutely garuntee you I've never had a Magnus head fail to open! Love the picture virginiashadow, that's what I'll be deflating lungs with this fall.
Not only does it permeate throughout this forum, but my couch and the pillows on which he rested his giant melon, emit this... this odor into the air after consuming gallons of febreeze. Regrettably so, the legend of Diamond shall live in this house forever!
2 years ago I used Slick Tricks with great results. Last year I used Rage with mixed results. I spot and stalk for hogs often. I found I can't leave a Rage tipped arrow nocked and walk through the woods without worrying about deploying the blades by catching them on brush. That goes for the arrows in the quiver as well. Thats not a worry with a fixed blade head. I also switched from 100 gr heads to 125 gr heads this year for greater FOC. I can get Slick Trick magnums in 125 gr and I've already done my BH tuning with them. That consisted of screwing one on to my arrow and shooting it at my target then doing the same with a FP tipped arrow. The POI is the same. Tuning complete. Gee....that was easy.
I’m glad to see most of these posts were poking fun and off topic as opposed to an actual debate. I’ve heard so much about these stupid heads & I’m so tired of it. The hype alone is cause for me to never, under any circumstance, ever use these heads.
I know in the 80's and still probably true now NAP is know for razor sharp blades right out of the package. They back their product 100%!
Whatever works for you is great - my initial concern with them was the more instances of poor pentration - I did not realize the other downsides with the blades while in quiver or still hunting. There's a reason people with 40lb bows don't use them - they don't penetrate as well. Even though I might have 60lbs., my muzzy's have always penetrated well and majority of deer die in sight. But cost should be a factor as well - I've only lost 1 muzzy over the years (11 or so) - so only costs have been replacement blades, and only a few arrows damaged...typically sticking in mud on other side of deer ...But then again, I cannot say I have put a Rage in the Cage or Threw an axe at a deer
This is pretty much my take. At first I thought maybe I should jump on the wagon...I mean most everyone else was on it already. Then I started to weigh the things that worried me. 1. What is the blades failed to deploy? 2. Do I want to worry about the blades deploying in my quiver? (I shoot with my quiver attached as well) 3. Do I want to spend $40 on 3 blades that may only last for one deer? I shoot quite a few deer every year. 4. Do I want to have to worry about them blades deploying if I am on a stalk? I shot a decent buck last year with my muzzy that only got one lung and he went about 60 yards uphill and dropped in sight. I don't have to worry about any of these issues with a fixed blade. Why would I want any of these questions in the back of my mind? We all talk about how a lot of hunting is the mental aspect so for me I'm going to stay positive in my thoughts and know my fixed blade will devestate a deer if I shoot it in the vitals. No way I want to shoot the biggest deer of my life and have an issue with the blade that I could have avoided.
As you guys at the get together noticed about me...if it works...why change it? Who else there was shooting aluminum shafts? I have been shooting montecs for years and have no complaints. The buck in my avatar went 15 yards and piled. I shot a doe last year that did a 10 yard loop and went down. No need to fix something that is not broken...but it is your call.
My feeling exactly. The heads I use perform very well and have less things that could go wrong with them during the shot than a Rage. Why would I mess with something that is already working well?
