Well, the jury has decided not to "invest" into a boat. Guess I'll go back to looking for a small jon boat/flat bottom rig to hunt the backside of the WMA here. Maybe best to give my little dude a few years and see where we are with sports/school activities. You guys did a great job talking me out of it. Back to wrenching on the Jeep!
Ok quoted the wrong person...please know that I was not implying banging sota. I will accept my dislikes with honor and not edit
Fix I didn't take it that way. Matter a fact as a newly wed I brought my wife night fishing for walleye, well things happened and when I was again aware of my surroundings I noticed my lit bobber was under water I reeled in a walleye naked from the waist down, it was a keeper too. I miss that boat.
many parts of this story are eerily similar to my own...minus Iraq. But yes, as the previous owner of a self-built 93 2 door Cherokee, a self-built 02 Wrangler, and a heavily modded 13 Wrangler JK; I can tell you I would have a lot more monetary riches had I not caught the Just Empty Every Pocket bug- but would have a significant memory deficit. Good times had in those Jeeps. As someone who grew up near and then on a lake, had a ski boat, and then moved fairly far from any decent water; my one piece of advice is this- never buy a pleasure boat (including pontoon) unless you live on the water. You will never use it enough to justify the time, cost, and hassle.
I have to beg to differ on having a boat and not being on a lake, then again I live in Minnesota with that whole 10,000 lakes thing. I can have a boat hooked up and on a lake in less than 5 minutes. within 10 minutes I can choose from 3 lakes.
I'm close to the river/WMA, I/family would get use out of a pleasure boat, but the cheapo hunt boat is low maintenance and I do not really need to worry about storage. There is plenty of water near me between 15min-1hr. My neighbor is pushing me towards the fancy boat, he tells me I can use his Excel 21' boat whenever I want to hunt, but I am not leaving a $40k boat tied to the river bank unattended. Quite frankly, this dang Jeep and house is taking up a lot of my time lately. Wife decided we need to move so my "I'll get around to it" list has moved up in priority. Swamp/Noodles, I had a CJ7 and a stock of CJ5/7 parts in the middle of a frame off rebuild yet the Army kept sending me to those wonderful sand countries. I sold everything for $1000 just to get rid of it. I miss that jeep.
You jeep guys, the last real 4 wheel drive they quit making in 1975. International Scouts were the real deal. My friend has my 1974 Scout 2 with the 4 barrel 345. It pains me every time I see him driving it.
Us Jeep guys can't afford one, but we will drop the same cost into parts and headaches into a Jeep. Makes total sense, right?
Yes it's a strange thing. I still have my jeep, 89 yj. I think the parts I have are worth more then the jeep! Haha Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
problem with Scouts is they started rusting before they got off the assembly line. Awesome machines, though. Would love to own one with a 'glass body. And I know you're poking fun but I'd take about any solid front axle 4x4 any more...hate IFS
Mine came from Durango CO it was rust free, it is a stunning truck. I also had a 1968 that had a v-8 266 in it. Drum brakes, no power steering it was a workout driving that truck.
