MAN PIERCED BY ARROW AT ARCHERY RANGE AT POCONO MANOR
Bethlehem man stepped in line of fire of his boss

An arrow punctured a man's cheek in an accident in Pocono Township on Monday.

Raymond O'Donnell, 46, of Bethlehem, was part of a group at the archery range at the Pocono Manor resort when he accidentally walked in front of someone shooting an arrow at a target, Pocono Township Police Chief Phillip Riley said.

The arrow went through his right cheek, Riley said, and lodged there.

He was taken by helicopter to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Riley said O'Donnell was talking with emergency officials at the scene.

Pocono Manor General Manager Lisa Green said O'Donnell was in the woods behind archery targets looking for an arrow he had shot.

While he was coming back to the shooting area, he wandered in front of another shooter when the accident happened around 5 p.m.

Green said there is an orientation program before anyone participates in archery at the resort, and there was supervision.

"The staff handled it excellently," she said. "This could have been horrible. Thank God it wasn't."

Riley said the man admitted the accident was his fault for walking in front of someone.

O'Donnell was part of a group from a medical supply company, Riley said.

The unidentified man who shot the arrow that caused the injury was O'Donnell's boss, Green said.
