I had to share this. Yesterday I put this photo on facebook of a $20 toy quad that I have sitting on top of one of my GoPro's. The toy quad is one that I fly around my office when I am board. Any flight time is good flight time and makes you a better operator for any quad. These toys can be a challenge to fly too. Anyway, I put it on Facebook as a joke saying that people have been asking what my setup is for shooting footage like that above. I am laughing about it now because people believe it ... LOL. If you are familiar with a GoPro then you realize just how tiny this toy quad actually is ... LOL. Funny stuff and fun times. Hoping to do some more flying this weekend, weather permitting.
Yes the two sunrise and the sunset photos have a ND4 filter on the lens. It helps take the edge off the bright sun on the sensor, allowing more detail in other areas, which then can be tweaked in post. It flattens out the image so it has to be adjusted in post. I really didn't push too much in post though as I wanted to keep the images as natural as I recalled them looking to my eye. I corrected the white balance some on the snow and then went back and re-adjusted the balance and tones in the sky a little. I did use a distort tool to take some of the GoPro's horizon curvature down to lessen the fish eye effect. I have an ND8CP filter as well for when the sun is really burning bright. I shot some video with it on the other day and I think it will look real cool in post to get a richer finished look. I'm still learning what the best settings, equipment, and editing is for this aerial GoPro stuff. A lot of trial and error but man is it ever fun.
That's awesome. Beautiful pictures too! They need to make a remote control hawk so I can keep the squirrels at bay while I'm in the stand. Every one of those little pricks sounds like a deer.
Those are just awesome! I have been wanting one for a long time now. Think it is going to move up my wishlist pretty quick!
On this past Sunday, the FAA announced their proposal for commercial endeavors and "drones". The proposal really isn't too bad. It is open for public comment and will take about two years to become law by all estimations. So we are closer to being able to use these things for professional video projects but it is still a long ways off at the same time. In the mean time we will just have to use these things for personal projects. I went flying last night here in Indiana about about froze my fingers off. Sure is fun though.
Go ahead and get one Greg... I'll run it for ya this spring lol.... I had a cheapo one but it got crushed
Here is a video that I shot yesterday with the snow falling. I also flew completely through my woods, which needless to day was dicey ... but fun.
Got a chance to fly a drone over the weekend and loved it. Did a great job with it too till I got it stuck up in a tree! Now I want one more then before!
