    Hi all,
Kinda new here but anyway for you guys with children I’m taking my son hunting for the first time this weekend in a blind. He’s just about to turn 6 and very active. I don’t expect to be hunting for then 90 min but how have others kept their kids busy? I want to make this fun for him.

Books, good snacks, games on a phone or gameboy type thing. Bring his small play trucks or whatever he is into. Give him his own binoculars. Put face paint on.

Thanks. I thought about an iPad. The binocs and face paint is a good idea. His mumma may not like that but she'll get over it :-)

I take my 7 year old daughter with me quite a bit & I always check the forecast carefully before we go. Other than than that binocs are always a good attention keeper for kids.

I have taken my 5 year old boy a few times in the past year. He is starting to get better. The box blinds work great. They are a must to keep the sound down. We have hunted in a ground blind a couple times. The best thing I found was to bring his trucks and construction equip toys then dig a hole in the dirt in side the blind and dump water out of a water bottle to make mud. I would keep him busy for a half hour. The problem Is he always talks when he sees a deer and he is loud. One other thing, Make sure you dont go to early. I always try to get there 15 min before I think they will move. All kids are different my 3 year old daughter will go and sit in woods while I hang stands for over an hour. My boy wont last 15 min. And remember to keep it fun

Thx for the input guys. Yea the little man isn't all that patient. I just wanna make sure he's not disenchanted with the idea of hunting after he tries it. I took my daughter when she was about the same age and she was just happy watching red squirrels with the bino's

I use most the advice above when taking my kids. My boys do well with the game boys and iPad in the blind with us. I've also carried in a sleeping bag so they could lay down in the blind if they wanted.

The first time I took my son was about that age and every time we saw a deer he had to pee. Saw a huge buck at about 200 yards working straight to us and you guessed it... he had to go. I wouldn't trade that story for every deer in the woods.

    This was this past spring.
I brought some books and crayons a pillow and a blanket.
She took one nap. Ate lots of fruit and loved every minute of it.
    Good luck and have fun.
You've already got the best trophy with you that day:)

Took mine last year, 8 now. He took a doe the an 8 point management buck teeny minutes later. He was content watching the deer, at one point there were 19 in the field. Prior to them coming out, he was completely content playing his DSI and games on my phone.

Many people hunt for the fun of it, the experience a with others in the outdoors is what makes for a memorable hunting experience.

Took my 6 year old last year. We got all showered up, face painted drove 30min to timber, walked 200 yards to blind, sat down, got comfortable. Sat for a total of 1 hour....still had at least 45min until dusk...He was bored, so we left. But it was fun anyway. LOL

My son started tagging along at 6. He would bring his ready assignment or some other quiet homework. I found that the first few times out, he really was amazed at all the sights and sounds around him.
    he asked a hundred questions
    he moved to fast
and he kicked the stand a hundred times with his boots
    and he talked to loud

Would I trade that for a 200"? not a chance in the world.

Have to agree that you already have the best trophy with you that day, I have taken my son since he was four. Snacks, range finder for them to play with ( when he was four to about 7 he would hit the range finder and say "theres a deer 44 yards away(or whatever yardage came up), must be in the thick stuff. " It was funny and priceless. Electronic gadgets help alot as well. Keep it fun it will be short but priceless.
