I've been tossing around the idea of getting a takedown longbow and getting a couple sets of limbs for it! A heavy set for big game and a lighter weight set for small game and summer shooting/practice. Any of you guys ever go this route??? Russ, I think I know your answer, you lucky dog you!
I shoot a lot, and I mean a lot, like everyday! I shoot my sons 35# Grizzly and really enjoy shooting it. I can work on my form very easily with a lower DW bow! I would like to get a lower 45#ish DW bow for practicing and small gaming! Especially in the summer, I can only shoot about an hour and I'm done because I get to tired and start to short draw etc... I can feel it in my elbows when shooting to much!
Good point!! That's exactly what I'm going to be doing also some this summer (shooting a light draw weight recurve to get my form back where It should be).
Those new RER short riser with 2 sets of limbs are calling our names Steve! Man there are SO many bow out there that I want its KILLING me!
You know, I just saw one of these for the first time the other day. I never knew they existed, until I saw the guys limbs laying on the counter. I kinda took a double take. Like, "DId he just break them? or something like that. That is a really cool idea though. If/when, I get a new string put on ours, and pick up shooting again, I will be looking into finding something like that some day for a possible replacement.
You know you can get different limb woods, DW and have just about 2 different bows! I would be willing to bet that you could get away with this for under $1000 and have 2 different bows so to speak!
It's killing me to Joe, It really Is man!! Them RER's are sweet looking. Fricking tease Is what they are right now!!
I'm REALLY liking the looks of the bow at the bottom of this page in the link... Jeff, Steve, I'm warning you guys now, have some will power! http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=48;t=000686
I have 3 sets of limbs, 3 different weights, 2 different lengths for my Bear Custom Take Down. Another plus of having a take down is in the event of a catastrophe you only have to replace parts not the whole bow. It is an investment though. Limbs for that bow cost almost as much as many new bows. I justify paying that by how little I've paid for my other bows. I have 14 recurves and 1 longbow. Out of all of them I only bought 4 of them new the rest were between free and $30.00. I really never worried about the feel of the bow too much because to my mind they're all good. The only ones I haven't liked all that well were an Indian Seneca and believe it or not a Black Widow PSA III Take-Down Recurve.
