Lol, thread chaos! When I watched that video the first time, I skipped the first section of it. The guy at the intro was pissing me off with the long winded commentary and I was anxious to get to the deer (the important chit). As a result I went until I saw the deer the first time and I didn't realize he was hunting with a crossbow that first night. I thought he was passing up a 46 yard shot with a shotgun! I thought he was just making an excuse and didn't really want to kill that deer after seeing it in person and being on his farm. I can see now why he declined if hunting with a crossbow. I would pass up a 46 yard shot on any deer but especially one of that caliber. I'd prefer never getting a shot rather than kicking myself if something went wrong and losing it to a wound and non-recovery.
No you would have to be holding a crossbow for that to kick in. Like watching soccer, being gay and using a crossbow is a lifestyle choice. We dont mind that you made the mistake of making it a part of your life, we just dont want to hear about it. Keep it to yourself. :p
Maybe we need to start a thread JUST for derogatory remarks. Nobody asked your opinion on crossbows. The question was whether you would take the shot or not. Easy enough to answer. There is already a thread to voice your opinion on whether you consider crossbows archery or not. Carry on
First off, stop the BS in this thread. Second, Wow, what a buck. Looking at the footage, no I wouldn't have shot as he was walking. Given the right circumstances, if he was stopped, calm and I could get my bow back, I would shoot. That's near the end of what I consider my shootable range.
It is in my comfortable range when it is a target. With that standing out there I'm not sure what my comfortable range would be. IF I was calm and he was calm I would take the shot. The problem with all of this is the part about me being calm.
This thinking has always bothered me. If you wouldn't risk the shot on a trophy animal, it shouldn't be risked on ANY animal. I hear statements like this all the time and it just bothers me to think that a doe or fawn is worth taking a chance and flinging an arrow, but we need to really be sure of our shot on a trophy buck. End of rant.
I would have taken the shot. I also would not have left a deer like that over night especially if it was starting to rain.
Well, you are the one that qualified the statement with; "deer like that". It wasn't much of a leap to make the assumption.
