Would you shoot this buck in late season to take out of herd if you do not get your two nice ones that are allowed? I like freaks so I personally would probably let go! I just want to get some input on this and why you all would or would not take him out.

I don't believe in cull bucks and really don't believe in filling tags just because you have them. I let him walk no matter what :tu:

He's far too young to kill him as a 'cull buck'. I think he'll be nifty in a couple of years.

That rack could be a perfectly normal 8 pointer next year. Tons of yearling bucks have weird shaped racks. The only time I believe in a "management" deer is when it is 3-4+ so you can actually see its potential...and by then it has already spread its seed many times over so it doesn't really matter. It's just a good excuse for shooting a mature yet small racked deer IMO....which I would be all over doing! :D haha

I let him walk. If I have years of pics of a buck like that then I try to put a young hunter after him for their first buck.

He gets a pass in my woods. I'd be interested what another yr or two would do for him.

I'd let him grow but if I had a young hunter with me I'd allow the youth to take him as his/her first deer.

I think he is fine. Hard to tell what he will be as only being a 1 1/2 year old. If he had the body of a 2 1/2 and that rack I'd say he needs to go for sure.

Killing a 1.5 year old with a rack like that for "management" purposes would be insane. Looking at him now, he could have the potential to be a real freak.

As a matter of fact, killing any 1.5 year old in the name of "management" is insane.

As another matter of fact, killing any buck in the name of "management" is insane. I'm sorry, but I don't believe you can alter the genetics of the bucks on your property by "culling" the undesirables.

If you want to shoot him, shoot him, but I wouldn't shoot him to "cull" him. If I wouldn't shoot him early season, I wouldn't shoot him late season, unless I was looking at tag soup and it was my last day in the stand.

If you look what I put with the picture is that I would probably let him walk. The only way I would take him is if he was the ONLY deer showing his face and the freezer was still empty. I do want to see him in a few years but there are a few other hunters that would take him in my area. I hope that he gets to live for a while and learns to trust me so that I can tag him later in life. LOL My target is the big 11 that I have video on trail cam. He is the first one that I have ever seen with 6 points on one side on my property.

If you want him for meat, go for it, but shooting him because he looks like his genetics are bad is dumb. Too many people judge bucks at young ages. You never know he could be the biggest stud around in a few years!

Public or Private? Not that it matters, he needs to be spreading that freak seed this year! I'd like to think hes on private land and wont get taken this year though.:tu:
