Been hunting for about 8 years now. I have two pieces of private land in Upper East Tennessee I hunt. Both very small acreage. One is all woods, no fields but beside Watuaga Lake. Other is a field, pond, and little bit of woods. My problem is the first piece of property I described has lots of does and young bucks 4's and 6's. Know of one bigger buck in there last year but haven't got any pics of him this year. Another problem is both pieces of land have hunters all around. Upper East Tennessee is hunted hard, they shot anything that walks. First piece of property how do I get the big boys in and get them to stay? What's my best chance at doing that? I'm putting out attractant every three weeks. Second piece of property I'm only a good friend, family gets to hunt whenever, I get to here and there, a good handful of big boys. Problem is hunters everywhere, again how to get them stay? Thanks!
The unowned property you are simply at the family's mercy and nothing you can do about it except get lucky. The one you own, plant some food in the middle, make it a sanctuary and hunt the edges...staying out of the sanctuary.
Also it's all woods, so wouldn't get much sunlight, any suggestions for what to put out in that situation? Thanks.
Clover, barasica, winter wheat are some of the things I know of that need little sun light and attract deer.
I'd say make a sanctuary myself. Hinge cut some trees and let it grow up thick in there. You probably wont see much from it this year but next year it should start taking off. Good luck!
