Well guys i went back to the oak flat this evening. After getting in the tree and setting up the camera i did a little rattling sequence, nothing showed it was a very slow afternoon at about five i had a doe and a fawn come running thru but there wasnt a buck behind them. then as i started to feel like the evening was over i caught a glimpse of a rack coming up the draw. I wasnt sure if he was a shooter or not so i zoomed the camera in on him and quickly decided i was gonna take him if given the opportunity. After all self filming and seeing i had already harvested a great buck out of this tree five days prior i was looking to close out the season. As he approached i followed with the camera as fate would have it he stopped in the exact same spot on the same trail i had shot my buck in on thursday, i smoked him he turned to run and went down on film not 50yds. from the tree. What a great way to end my illinois buck season with a couple of great deer from the same tree on the same trail in the exact same spot i released the arrow from. he ended up being an 8pt. and he scored 131 6/8" not a bad buck at all, and to capture it all on film priceless!!
Heck of year Richie! Congrats and to do if filming yourself is awesome. Great bucks both of them. I have a 4x4 in my neck of the woods that looks a lot like that one. Great work, looking forward to seeing this one on bowhunt or die!
thanks, shed, and lady forge, I have had a great season and cant wait to get out the snow camo and go pound some does, as for now i think im gonna switch back into waterfowl mode and go knock the air out of some geese.
Way to go Richie! You are laying 'em down this year, and on video! Is that a scar or a white patch on his nose? Either way, it'll make for a cool cape!
Thanks guys i really appreciate all the kind remarks. as for the white patch i dont know its odd, and yes the spot appears to be a really good spot at least this year anyways.
Looks like you may have found yourself "the killing tree". Congrats, heck of a season you're having. Good luck with the geese and herd control later in the year.
Nice Richie! I have yet to even see any Pope & Youngs let alone a buck over2 years old. My time is coming I hope! Great bucks for you for sure! Congrats now lets get to shed hunting!
