I learned this early on from a mentor and still subscribe to it. “Don’t pass up on the first day what you would shoot on the last day.”
I find myself mentally prepping for what I need to do after I shoot a deer, I have to move a boat out of the shop and have room for the cutting table, and temperature control etc. I am actually finding myself looking forward to processing a deer any deer I want fresh trimmed aged venison. My lean to is dang near full of fire wood almost prepped for winter but I want a corner of the chest freezer filled with venison to be ready for winter. I am prepping a secondary stand to take a doe before the rut, I want to take the wire doe she outsmarted me an many occasions last season.
For me living in Pa which is a 1 Buck state I’ve always held the belief take what you get when it comes... tomorrow is our Opener and if 1 of the Bucks that are shooters comes by my stand at 7am and presents me a shot I’m taking it... leave nothing on the table cause it might not present itself twice!!!! Roger that! I get pretty picky after my freezer is full so I'll be picky this year in Oklahoma. I think the most I've ever killed in Oklahoma in a year is two deer. I'm ready to give it a try though.
