I have had good luck with the Rage Hypodermics, the doe I shot last year barely made it 20 yards and had a blood trail I could follow with just the moonlight. But I got the Dirtnap Gear's DRT and I'm really liking the durability and action of the single bevel head

I get that and if I shot them I would do the same thing and think most should! I think the low poundage is a huge part (or bow simply not tuned or set up right for them).

I like re-using heads for target practice and back up shots. But even in my quiver despite shooting Slicks (fixed), will have 3 brand new heads when hitting the stand.

No bone contacted they are amazing...even this FIXED or nothing shooter admits that. It is the issues of moving parts and "typically" weaker strength when impacting bone that keeps me from them.

But like I've said, if your bow can shoot them and you put the arrow where it should go the broadhead is a NON-FACTOR in a harvest.

The myth that a mechanical is stopped by bone is just that. I put a rage titanium thru both shoulder blades of a mature buck last fall. That is why I keep telling people who use mechanicals to use a heavier arrow, 450 grains or more with a high KE bow you will be amazed what can be penetrated.

I COULDNT AGREE MORE!! The buck I killed I shot through both shoulders with the Rage Hypodermic Deep Six. A friend shot a 194 inch buck in MO this past hunting season at 53 yards and shot through his front shoulder. He uses the Rage Hypodermic Deep Six as well. Both of us are shooting arrows (Easton Injexion Deep Six FMJs) at or over 450 grains with arrow speed over 300fps. This setup is Killer!!

Sota to an extent you are 100% true. However, science would disagree with you with penetration potential between a mechnical and a fixed. Shoot a single beveled two blade head out penetrates anything but even I don't shoot those. Can all 3 blow through a shoulder (even 2)? Like you said that is a definite YES, however that is with a proper weighted arrow like you stated.

I'm shooting about 54 pounds out of my HTR getting speeds about 245ish. My arrows weight 392 grains. do you think the Rage Hypodermics would be ok for me to shoot or would the slick tricks be a better choice?

Most definitely not. Shoot the slicks or even a cut on contact head like the nap hellrazor or VPA broadheads.

That's very true. But I think the majority of people screw on a mech head because their bow isn't tuned properly for fixed and could care less about weight or other factors. Majority of archers just use what a shop recommends and don't think any further.

I have shot SWACKER before with good results, I don't shoot mechanical anymore I shoot slick tricks, but to each there own they all work when put in the right spot!! Here is an entrance from a buck I shot with the swacker head. He didn't go 20 yds, he was all rutted up. I have buddies that shoot rage and some of those deer look like they were cut with a Ninja sword haha.

Thanks guys. I think i'm gonna get the slick tricks come this fall. Any preference for my setup to use the Standard or the Magnums?

Both fly good in most bows somewhat tuned. I like the bigger cut on the magnums.
