It is easy for those who have swords to advocate others beating theirs into plowshares. Similarly, it is easy to give pronouncements suggesting others should disarm themselves “to prevent violence” while they are chauffeured in bullet-proof automobiles and live behind gated fences patrolled by armed guards. It is easy for some to call for a new era of civility when they have no intention of conducting public monologs showing respect for their opponents. I found it somewhat amusing when Speaker Pelosi proclaimed she would “Drain the Swamp” and then proceeded to preside over four Congressional sessions that were the most secretive, underhanded and willfully abusive in recent history. This week, I heard our President’s comments on Republicans’ now wanting a moat, filled with alligators in addition to a wall along our southern border. At first I thought it was a comedian spoofing Obama. When I found out it was really him speaking in earnest, I was instantly steamed. I can somewhat excuse gun banners and anti-violence advocates even if they are truly misguided. I can even forgive Pelosi for her outright lies to the American people (She is from California and a long time professional politician…what did we really expect?). But when it comes to the President making comic of our virtually open southern border, I find no forgiveness in my by now hardened heart (After all, that was quite a bit of forgiving for me to this point). If before his presidential campaign he was not a professional politician, Mr. Obama has proven by his actions and more importantly his words, he has become the consummate professional politician. He has no conscience when it comes to baseless demonizing of his opponents, none regarding the truth (as we speak the border is still two-thirds wide open) and feels no compunction about separating folks by race, creed or culture to further his own re-election agenda. I think I have reached my personal limit for this administration’s idea of hope and change. The changes I have seen are all bad and the hope some Americans felt on his inauguration was obviously misplaced. I wonder if Pelosi saved all of those alligators when she supposedly drained the swamp. I hope so, think of all the money we could save stocking the moat.
