I don't like the idea of tag sharing, but I honestly don't believe it's your responsibility to take this to the GW. If your butcher feels like they are hunting illegally, he has an obligation to turn that into the game warden, not to spread rumors and not do anything about it himself.

Let's all be honest, each and every one of us break some sort of law everyday. Driving over the speed limit, not coming to a complete stop at an intersection, etc. I'm not saying it's right, not even close, I just think we should all step back and look at ourselves before we persecute others.

Completely agree, just posed the question incase anyone in a similar case got anything accomplished without having a confrontation or fued set in motion with the neighboring hunters.

I always get a kick out of the people who compare speeding to poaching. Really? They're the same thing?

    I don't think so Timmy.

I talk to LEO about the weather or about football. But making any statement about any of your actions, possessions, capabilities, observations, etc to an LEO that investigating a crime, without an attorney present, is simply foolish. Lots of people who ended up with fines or in jail thought "I have nothing to hide."

In my area people have literally spent the night in jail over an expired vehicle emissions tag. In at least one case the vehicle wasn't even in use, and thus the owner was under no obligation to comply with emissions requirements. After the guy had to pay an attorney to explain the law to the police, the police didn't even apologize, they just dropped the matter. Expecting law enforcement to be reasonable, informed, or to look out for your best interests is terribly niave.

But, as I say to everyone who happily disregards sound advice, I hope it never comes back to haunt you.

A call to the GW won't hurt anybody as long as you don't call raising cain trying to start a witch hunt. GWs around here are very receptive to friendly tip offs, and YES they prosecute falsification of game tags/telecheck systems (IE using wife's tag who never stepped foot in the woods to kill a second buck in a one buck state).

The fine line is that you call with suspicions, NOT accusations. Say you saw that they brought in 4 bucks at once from that farm on such and such week and one was even in velvet which you found odd. Don't know anything about it but thought I should let you know in case anything was going on.

Where are laws ranked in which ones are more of a crime? If it's illegal, it's illegal. Right? A laws a law, however we may feel about it. There are plenty of laws out there that I think are dumb, but if I break that law, I run the risk of being caught and charged for my actions. Some laws have more relevance to certain populations that others. Poaching is one of those laws. None hunters don't care nearly as much about this as hunters do. Some people feel that smoking weed isn't a big deal, and others do. Downloading music illegally from the internet is another one.

Alright...you get pulled over going 5 mph over, and you get a ticket it's gonna be what $90....$70 all depends. Now you poach or illegally harvest a deer and you'll lose a whole lot more than that! That alone seperates the two....my uncle turned in some party hunters up in MI a few years back and two of the guys lost their firearms and their atv's they used to haul the animals out with....yeah speeding a few mph's over is the same....keep drinking that kool aid  Again I agree though as stated before both are illegal...however I'll admit one is worse IMO.

Note the use of a smilie. It means I can say whatever I want.
