SCENERIO: You are employed by a large publicly traded corporation as a widget inspector. You are presently making $20 per hour with benefits. You read that last year your employer posted a 10 million dollar profit. At your next annual review, you are entitled to:
None of the above. You are entitled to nothing. Your employer can choose to give you a raise or bonus as they see fit based on how they want to treat their employees. You in turn can choose to leave that employer if you feel you can do better elsewhere. Free market.
Strange....on here it is mostly what I expected. On another site the vast majority who responded said something to the effect that since they were employed there, they helped make the profit and were entitled a above average raise AND bonus. I didn't think that everyone thought businesses were in business for making the employees wealthy. On the other site, I followed up to those people with whether or not they would be willing to take a pay cut if business was bad the following year and they were not for that at all.
Buy a potion(shares) of the company then receive profits paid though dividend and a possible increase in share price. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nothing. The mentality that someone owes a person something is what is destroying the fabric of our country.
I feel that I'm entitled to get a raise each year from my employer and if they choose not to give me one, then I will choose to be looking to take my services elsewhere. Our cost of living goes up every single year, and if you do not receive a raise, you are actually receiving a pay cut. If you are good at your job and do quality work, there should be no reason an employer can't give you at least a cost of living wage adjustment, especially if they are posting profits. Employees are what makes a company and without quality employees, the company wouldn't be worth anything and would quickly fail.
You are entitled to make your case for what you want, your employer is entitled to tell you to pound sand.
If you don't fight for what you want, who will fight for you? My buddy has fought for larger bonus, pay raise more vacation. Most employers are just like you and me. They want to low ball you, it's their money why would they. I choose to stand up for myself and fight for what I want. I just fought for a huge raise and more vacation. Do you think of I sat on my *** they would have offered it to me, lol
Knowing nothing about the company I wouldn't even know if a $10 million profit is considered a good year for this business? That figure would be considered a major disappointment at the company I work for. But, I think raises/bonuses should be based on merit rather than just expecting to reap the benefits of how a company is doing financially.
You really aren't entitled to anything but if you work hard & make your employer profit, and aren't compensated, that sucks and it's easy to see why you would feel like you are owed something. I've seen emploers that treated emplyees like dirt, I've seen places where they treated them as valuable resources and about everything in between. it's often easier said than done, that if you dont like working for a company go somewhere else.
The company is not obligated to give you anything !!!! You want a raise, ou go out and find a different job !! I am on straight commission, if I want a raise, I have to sell more ! In 2009 when the economy took a dump, I earned 75% less that what I was averaging before, how's that for going along with the economy. I chose to be on straight commission knowing that when times are tough, I am in trouble, but when times are good, I can make more money than the average guy ! Give this some thought also... If you think you are indispensible to a company...stick your finger in a bucket of water, pull your finger out and see how big of a holoe you leave !
I just want to get paid according to how good i do my job.. If I am lazy I shouldn't get a raise even if the company had a huge profit that year.
One would think that they should be paid according to the job they do, but that usually isn't the case. Like someone else said, fight for what you want and if it doesn't pan out.. Hit the Road and find a new job..
If you feel your entitled to more compensation if the company makes money, then you'd better be ready to write a check in those years where they take a loss.
The job where I work does this every year we call this paid for performance Sent from my SCH-R530U using Tapatalk 2
And at a years time the company gives checks out for how much the company makes a year...profit sharing Sent from my SCH-R530U using Tapatalk 2
