While Dave's bow is hanging in the shop with yet another coat of finish drying. I decided to go ahead and start the Surprise Bow The person I am building this bow for has absolutely no idea he is going the the recipient of a Kanga Custom "Yarra":p The riser is going to be Ash and Tiger Stripe Pecan. As you can see I have the 2 pieces of wood spot glued together, the riser shape marked and the xed out portion is going to be the Pecan. The limbs will be Tiger Strip Pecan edge grain for the back and Ash for the belly. The limb butt overlays are going to be Tiger Stripe Pecan with the stripe running across the limb. Once the spot glue has dried on the riser section I have to change out the bandsaw blade from the 3/4" blade to a 1/4" blade to cut the curve. More to come:D
its amazing to me to watch these rough cut blanks and boards come out into such beautiful pieces of art!! You and the others who build these are really pretty remarkable. Congrats to the Lucky Guy who gets to drop the string on what i am sure will be yet another Beautiful Yarra
LT2D Thanks mate I appreciate it. Ok Changed out the band saw blade, done the cutting and had to do a little sanding to get the 2 pieces to fit snug. Here it is all glued up just before poping it into the heat box for the next 4 hours. Now it's back to Daves bow for another sanding and another coat of finish:p
You're a class act Russ , that sure will be one heck of a surprise for somebody . I love these build-a-longs
The riser is now all glued up excess ground off and in rough shape. Hopefully I can make a start on the limbs tomorrow after I sand Daves bow back again and apply another coat, hopefully this will be the last coat before I do the writting.
I agree bro, simply amazing for me to see the transformation! Good on ya Russ, going to be a good one!
I was just out in the shop checking on "Banjo Boy's" bow to see if the finish was hardened. Anyhow I got to lookin around and found some Ossage so a slight change of plans with this one. Gonna do the wedges and limb butt overlays in Ossage just to add some color to finished bow so it wont look so plain jane'ish:D
Russ , there is nothing plain jane about your bows .... They look the nuts mate and my Yarra will be no exception .
Sweet, I'm really liking the Osage, my new Big River has some, can't wait for it to get here! Its way over due but I'm in no rush!
