I had a major surgery this year. I now have a titanium plate in my neck with six screws. I was shooting 70 pounds last year very well. I had to tame it down a lot this year. I have been able to start shooting for the last couple of months. I am shooting 54 pounds out to 50 yards pretty good. Season starts on the 29th of this month. Should I just keep it at 54 pounds or should I try to get it higher for elk and mulies???

Edit- I should add I'm shooting a Bowtech Tomkat, with 5575's and 125 grain Muzzy.

    Thanks Bryan

I would say that you are going to want to keep your DW at were you feel the most comfortable. You might not be able to take as long of shots but you should be fine with a properly placed shot and a sharp BH.

There is no need to increase the poundage, you will be fine.

I went out tonight and double checked the weight. It was 58 instead of 54. I cranked it up to 66 and could not believe how much harder it was. It started causing pain after shooting just 4 arrows. I cranked it back down to 58 and I'm going to leave it there for the rest of this year. I hope I don't get a 60 yard shot at a nice bull this year!! It sucks getting old!! LMAO!!The good news is, I shot some really nice groups at 20 yards after I cranked it back down to 58. Thanks for the advice and good luck to everyone this season.

    Bryan

Yup i agree with keeping the DW at 58. especially if it started getting sore after 4 shots, and the fact your shooting great with what it was, put it through the lungs of a big elk or mullie and he will go down.

Only other thing may want to consider is a quality COC broadhead - can do nothing but aid in penetration- but like has already been said should be fine
