Well, I've avoided the knife for all of my forty(something) years, but tomorrow the streak ends. I've got a ruptured disc pushing up against my spinal cord. MRI shows some damage that can be reversed if done now. If ignored, it could turn me into a quadriplegic. Not a real hard choice to make there. Going to Hopkins early tomorrow morning to get it all taken care of. I'll be in there overnight, and it sounds like a 4-6 week recovery. Thank goodness deer season is over now. Good thing is, Dr. said that I should be able to draw my bow in a couple of weeks, and slowly start working into other things. Should be a full recovery if I do things right and all goes well. One thing to say good about this state (Maryland) we have some of the best medical care in the world within a short drive in any direction. I'll be bed-ridden for a few days, hope you guys and gals come up with some interesting threads to give me some good reading. V
Good luck with the recovery. Follow the orders, slow and steady when it comes to recoveries. Don't want years of pain down the road for an extra week of mobility up front by pushing it too hard. Hope all goes well!
Easy does it Vent after the surgery... slow steady progress wins the race. Praying for all involved in your surgery and recovery (and your deer season too).
I just had spine surgery three weeks ago, laser spine ins. Here in st.louis with zero cutting still have a lot of pain where they stretched The muscles but I am overall better but on a slow recovery. Best of luck to you pm me if you need some moral support. Been there
Hope it all goes well. My chiropractor is talking about sending me for an mri soon. Pinched nerve and losing strength in leg. Says I'm probably going to jave to jave surgery. I'm looking for as many positive reports as I can find. Going under the knife terrifies me Sent from my SCH-I535
...hope all goes well...don't be afraid to ask questions while doing the rehab and listen to your body. My own experiences with surgeries have taught me pushing something is the worse thing to do.
Look into laser spine surgery no cutting at all and you walk out of surgery the same day. There is a new one in St. Louis Mo.
The MRI terrifies me more then a knife just thought makes me feel anxious.. The last time I had a panic attack and the had to pull me out...
the old one they stuck me in last time as so small my nose almost touched the top and my shoulders were rubbing the sides I was so claustrophobic ..........I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE!
Our fire chief had to have surgery last year for early stage of cancer. He traveled to Maryland and said it was the best experience he has ever witnessed in a hospital setting. He didn't have one complaint. He even said the bed was better than his at home, lol. I wish you the best of luck, will be sending good thoughts your way.
Just got back home, and all is well. Thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayers. The surgery went well, and to be honest, was way easier than I thought it would be.(My first). I have very little pain, mostly just a tight, sore throat. They have trying to give me pain meds since yesterday, and not playing tough guy at all, I haven't really needed them. I did think that it was going to hurt much worse afterwards. No restriction on eating, thought I'm sticking with the softer foods for a couple of days, like french fries and milkshakes I too was a little apprehensive of the MRI, as I've become a little claustrophobic the last few years and had heard horror stories about them from others, but the open style was a breeze. I'm going to be taking it easy for about six weeks, I can go back to work in about 2.5 wks, but I'm not doing anything stupid to jeopardize this for sure. Thanks again for all of the support!
Take it slow is all I can say, don't bend down for anything I got one of those sticks with the grabbing hands to pick up things from Walgreens. Use ice a lot here still it's going to be four weeks Tuesday and noway I could go to work. My first two weeks went well but has gotten tuff since then,my work outs wipe me out. Good luck and I am glad your out and doing well.
