BTW, there's a little nudity in the video...:d http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olCl4UzO_os&feature=PlayList&p=BB8BC441BB44E3E7&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=52
you can't talk about guitar licks without talkin about guys like Hendrix, SRV, Clapton, Robert Johnson, Jeff Beck, BB King, Buddy Guy, EVH, David Gilmour, etc... I like Nuge, but when it comes to musical talent, he's mid-pack at best...
Crap! I'm driving too fast for it to stream properly... That, and W. Kentucky isn't exactly known for its plethora of cell-phone towers. :d
i don't know if he's got 'em ALL beat, but JB is one of the most subtle players out there.... you really can't have a true appreciation of how good he is until you try playing some of his stuff... he kills it with the nuances and details of his performances... but, I don't think there is another player EVER that put more of his soul into his playing than SRV... if you tried playing a guitar setup like his and burn thru any one of his tunes your fingers would be aching (if not bleeding) and you'd be pouring sweating off your entire body... he put that much into each and every song... and he'd do it for an entire set, I can't even make it thru one of his songs without having to take a break...
Now i know their is lots to be said about him, but i always loved Slash. I dont care what your opinion of him is, hes my favorite. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhCM88LhoW0
i cant belive angus young hasnt been metioned yet i mean come on. especially wth the backup with malcome young best two brother guitarists. thats what i think anyways
Well, I have listened to some of the greatest and some of the most obscure, and some in between. If I had to pick out a guitarist that amazed me when I was playin' a lot, it would have to be the late Jeff Healey. Blind and playing on his lap or a stand (and not with a slide either). Simply amazing to me. Another couple would have to be Billy Gibbons and Joe Satriani.
Don't get me wrong Jeff I love Derek's vocal style, but the to me, the best vocal part in that song is done by Ted! Don't give Derek all the credit Meatloaf also sang on some of Ted's stuff and if I'm not mistake Rick Derringer as well!
Yeah BHF Bridge of Sighs was great as was so many more of his. I tell you another couple or three are: Shannon Curfman, Jonny Lang, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
Robin is playing my stage on the opening night of Summerfest, the biggest music festival in the World, 11 stages for 11 days straight, 12 hours of music every day on all stages. Attendance is right around a million people, its been around for 40+ years right Downtown Milwaukee on the Lakefront of the big lake!! I'm the lighting Director on the Rock stage and he played a couple years ago I ran lights for his show then and is was one of the best shows I see in 25 years of being in the business!
hey BHF, try out some rory gallagher... guy is amazing... to bad he drank himself to death... i've got a real hard on to get the Fender Custom Shop Rory tribute strat... played one about 6 mos back, felt like and old pair of jeans with amazing tone... to bad I don't have 3k to drop for a guitar, if I did that or the Gilmour custom shop strat would be my choice... and it would be a TOUGH choice on which to get...
good call on Vince Gill GMMAT, and robert cray also... i saw cray at the concert the night SRV died, awesome show... and vince gill might be one of the most underrated country musicians of all time... he can flat play the blues like its nobody's bidness... and I don't think there is a better picker style player than willie nelson, the guy is amazing on that old Martin guitar he plays... edit to add - there isn't an acoustic guitar i'd trade my 50th anniversary 1954 strat for either... but i'll never be a single guitar guy anyway and I'd like to have a low end martin/taylor for those days when I feel like pickin out on the patio or somethin...
look at a used Made in Mexico Strats... the Jimmie Vaughn model is seriously one of the nicest feeling strats there is... the neck shape is excellent with the soft V shape and has Tex-Mex pickups that can produce some really nice dirty blues tones... excellent guitar for the money... on the amp, i'm a BIG fan of the Fender Blues Jr., but those things are fetching near $500 used these days... find a used SuperChamp XD, its a hybrid tube/SolidState amp with some nice built in effects... a very nice combo that could be had for about $750 on the used market if you shop smart...
I'm diggin' the Nuge vids... and yes, early solo Ted stuff had Derek St. Holmes on lead vocals. Also had Meatloaf and Rick Derringer on a song here & there before he took over completely. Nice thing is that he got Derek to sing on a couple of songs recently... As far as great guitartists.... Eric Johnson Jimmy Page Harold Faltermeyer of Steely Dan Mato Nanji of Indigenous Ricky Skaggs And one that's underrated in my opinion.. Lindsey Buckingham from Fleetwood mac
