Finally going to bite the bullet and pick up a Viper SD sometime in the next month or so.

I know there are a ton of threads that mention the Viper SD but I'm looking to see some reasons someone would NOT buy one?

Also, what are some accessories or add ons that you guys would not go without for your Viper SD?

Looking for any information at all before I throw out the cash.

And I don't want to hear about Lone Wolf because I haven't even considered one!

I LOVE my Summit Viper SD... the one accessory I got was a clamp-on bow holder.

Love my Viper. Last year I bought a bow holder from Third Hand Archery and it was one of the best purchases I've ever made. You can climb the tree with bow in the holder. It's nice not having to pull your bow up and down the tree and bang it against limbs or the trunk and also if something comes in while you're climbing you can stop, grab your bow and shoot. I'd highly recommend getting one and any of the other products on Third Hands site. They make some good stuff.

    No reason. They are awesome.
Things you will like to add...
Foot rest, the traction tape (rubber boots can squeak when rails are wet), fleece tape.
Then contact Third Hand Archery and get their stabilizer straps and the bow holder. Makes it a completely different stand!!
MOLI shoulder straps and hip pads.

What is the purpose of the fleece tape?

Thanks for all the responses so far!

Anyone know the difference between the 2012 and newer models?

The new one has a noise dampening material sprayed on and inside the aluminum tubing. Its actually considerably quieter or I think it is. The cost is more as well. You really cant beat the Summit brand no matter what product of theirs you choose. I have the Summit Back Packer, its basically a Viper that collapses down flat for easier carrying. I am pretty sure they stopped making it or at least renamed if they still do. Bottom line, you cant go wrong with that purchase. OH, there is a "viper classic" this is the old old design and its steel not aluminum, pretty heavy so make sure you get the aluminum one. If you don't mind the weight which is 26lbs classic and 20lbs SD, then go classic it is drastically cheaper. But the lighter the better in my opinion. Hope this helped a little bit.

Thirdhandarchery has some "must have". Climbing stand stabilizer and bow holder. Both fantastic.

Wow! Really appreciate toe votes for Third Hand Archery accessories. Got a new one for ya that has really taken off this winter.
We call it the SS Foot Rest/ Deer drag. For $15, First it is a 2 position foot rest that will keep your feet off the cold metal floor on the cold days then turns into a deer drag. 2013-07-20 16.12.10.jpg 20131201_102127.jpg

THAT IS AWESOME! I like to sit in my Viper and stretch my legs out... but I'm always afraid of sliding off the seat and hanging there via my safety harness. That device would sure solve that fear.
