In all the reviews this is the one problem that keeps happening over and over again. What do yo guys do to prevent this from happening. Thanks.

And I may not buy one because of it.. shouldn't have to repaint, touch up, do anything to stand that costs that much. It's more the principal of the matter than anything.

Although I don't use my Summits any more (climbers, I should say.... I've still got five Copperhead hang-ons I use), I did use them for the first 12 or 13 years of my bowhunting career.

I can honestly say I never had any paint peel or flake off on mine, and I used them HARD.

Last year was my first season with mine, no paint flaking off of mine. If it does I'll just put a sick paint job on it :D

I've had my Summit Climber since 2001, it looks great still, haven't done a thing to it, and it gets beat all around in my trailer...I love it!

My summit does flake some paint. So what?

Are aesthetics a major influence on what tree stand you buy? A tree stand purchase should be made based on how the stand performs, not how it looks, IMO. If you don't like the the summit that is fine. But if you think the Summit is a great stand and you don't purchase it because of some paint flaking of your making a mistake IMO.

Well, I don't care how it looks. I'm the only one who'll be in it. I could care less how it looks. But I've got 2 issues, 1 it shouldn't be doing that if it's as much of an issue as I've been reading about in that short of time. 2. Shiney aluminum and deer hunting don't go together. If you don't mind a shiney stand that's up to you.

It sounds like the paint problem (if it was a problem to begin with) has been taken care of. People tend to exagerate issues sometime too. Not trying to start anything with you, hope you know that.

No insult taken at all. If you read my posts I give a no nonsense comments; blunt to be exact. I also am not one of those people that bought something and need to recommend it to everyone to make myself feel better about my purchase. I'm just saying the little bit it flakes off is not a big deal at all and should not be considered as a factor IMO. The shiny aspect is a non factor IMO. It's not like it's a mirror or anything.

What I will say is it is something Summit should work on. You are right for the money they should be able to get the paint right. But again, I love the comfort of my summit and I would buy another one is a second even if I knew it had the same problem.

I'm not even advocating that summit is the “next coming” of tree stands. I'm just saying if you like the summit stands then buy it. Don't let a little bit a flaking paint stop you.

I've used a Summit for 3 seasons now and no issues with paint. However I agree 100% with Brad's post.

I have a Summit that I've had for 6 years and I have the same kind of flaking that GFY Camp experienced. I thought about repainting, but ended up using some camo duct tape to do some double duty and help deaden sound.

Honestly, if it would bother you that much I wouldn't buy a Summit. If it's not that big of a deal to you, they are great stands in many other ways.
