I have a Summit Goliath climber that I bought about this time last year, and hunted from it exclusively last season. I got it out the other day to climb a tree in a new spot and clear out shooting lanes. I looked it over good at home, but when I got to the woods I found that the shrink wrap is broken around one of the knuckles that locks the cable in place. Where it isn't broken it's cut up bad around the rest of the knuckles. It's a little annoying since the part that touches the tree is all fine and good, but I'll get the new shrink wrap to fix it.. Anyone else using a Summit climber have similar wear on their cables after just one season? I'm not sure if there's a more gentle way of pushing/pulling on these to keep down the wear to the cover.

Also, I found that some of the paint has come off of the frame, and I wonder if this should be covered again with paint, or if it's fine. It's aluminum, so rust shouldn't be a problem, just curious.

    Thanks!

I bought new cables for mine, but the stand is 4 years old. I'm not sure how long the cables will hold up, and I don't want find out.

I've been using a summit viper for years. the heat shrink tubing coming off or chewed off is normal. Mine has the metal cable exposed in some spots. that is some serious grade cable, nothing to worry about at all!:tu:

I've been using a summit that had chewed up/missing shrink wrap for almost ten years. I bought replacement shrink wrap but never applied it. It is actually easier to use with the missing shrink wrap because it doesn't hang up as bad.

I have covered the flaking pain with spray paint and camo tape.

It's ugly but I've killed a bunch of deer from it. :)

Been using my summit stand for many years and done a lot of climbing with it. Shrink wrap wore off a long time ago but the cables are good and showing no sign of wear. Paint is chipped too but that comes from use. I'm not worried about the cosmetic looks of it as long as it gets the job done. Can't wait to get into a tree with it this year.

The "shrink wrap" on mine is also gone. Maybe a whole foot from the end but I'm not worried about it. I had to replace my shoulder straps last year as they dry-rotted but no big deal.

I have three summit climbers and the cable wear is normal and nothing to worry about. However, I do upgrade the straps on all of mine to the muddy straps because they have a buckle chest strap and more padding

Are these the straps you're talking about? I've been wanting to upgrade mine:

Cool beans. I'll get some tubing whenever I come across some, but it seems like I don't need to get in a huge hurry about it. I also don't care about the looks of the stand, I just wondered whether the exposed metal would matter. It shouldn't, but I like opinions from others also. Thanks!

I hadn't ever thought to replace the straps on the Summit, as bad as I hate them. I may also look into this.

Glad to hear I am not the only one with this issue. I was wondering if I need to consider doing something with the shrink wrap starting to come off. I won't worry about it.

I remember when my summit had shrink wrap on the cables :/ like 6 years ago... I don't leave mine out in the weather so I'm not worried about the cables rusting.
