You and NYbowhunter were the only two Irish fans I could think of on here. Neither one of you are hardheads when it comes to the Irish either.
living in chicago area, ND still is the worst... their fans are WAY more annoying than bear fans can be to packers fans... though i must admit, often the ND fans are Bear fans as well, but they take their 'homer-dom' to a new level when the conversation turns to college football... maybe its regional but the relative proximity to chicago makes it particularly noteworthy in my area...
I know what you are thinking, the podunk rednecks that yap (only when we are winning), but go to a game. That is the standard rule in the stands, class at all times. I have seen more games than I can remember dating back to Legion Field. In all those years I have never seen an opposing fan disrespected, and if they were the home fans corrected the situation immediatly...just my observation, and yes there are GUMPS everywhere.
Yep, 1 fan out of a few million. Dr. Death was over the top across the board, his affiliation with a particular school not withstanding. It is weird that all you northern boys have such bad memories dealing with Bama fans, down here we never run into enough fans from schools that are a great distance away to form an opinion. You sure it is not a deep rooted hatred for Bama period(j/k) And yes ND fans are the worst here, they have not won a thing since Lou Holtz new he was gonna pee on himself, but we hear about them constantly. Ben/NY are the exception in my time, and a VERY good friend is a ND fan, just as pompoius as anyone I have ever met. I think it boils down to you particular interaction with said fan, temperment at the time etc...Worst fan I ever met happened to be an tOSU fan. We were bowling during the Miami.tOSU national champ game, the game was on the scoreboards/in the bar area. He was just yapping as loud as he could and we this and we that...he noticed by bama hat and started on me about why we suck now...blah blah blah. I told him in front of his "crew" and girlfriend that I would give him 100 bucks to name 5 defensive starters (most always know you're offensive stars) and laid it on the table....He slapped the bill on the floor and told me money means nothing to him. Later his buddy got a lane beside us and explained that the dude was from Columbus, but he was no fan...until they were in the big game. I would never let that chance meeting form an opinion of tOSU, just that guy in general.
How so, how many of "us" do you know personally. I try and avoid being that guy when discussing sports, hopefully I have remained that way with you guys on here. There are only 2 of us, myself and sevenmag (Phillip is a clost fan, but he would never admit it on a public forum:D) and you guys seam to really think low of us...
A real tOSU fan wouldn't have been bowling during the championship game! Most real fans aren't the over the top types that annoy us all. It is usually the fair weather fans who are hard to stomach. I have no dislike at all for Bama... I just get a laugh out of all the Bear Bryant, tradition etc etc babble. I do however very much respect Bamas tradition, just grew tired of hearing about it again and again.
Personally I've ran into more UGA fans running their traps than anything lately. I'm sure that has a lot to do with where I live. They are on the top of my list right now.
I don't "HATE" him, though I do believe just from what I've observed he does seem a bit narcissistic. I just don't seem him making consistent good plays that you need from a QB if you're gonna play high level football and win a National Championship. Watch Andrew Luck, Cam Newton, or even Mallet play and you see a guy who has good pocket presence and makes good decisions with the ball. TP's stats may have been better in that game, but Mallet played the better game, and had the boys from AR-Kansas not dropped so many balls, that was going to end up in the LOSS column for our Buckeyes, not the Win column. Change the recovery of that fumble in which he was carrying the ball like he was playing in the backyard, and that's a LOSS. LUCK put this one in our WIN column. Tressel should have put the team on the field to PLAY the second half, not "try and run the clock out before the other team could catch up!!!!" I'd take a few more losses over this type of football in all honesty. Get in a game you're behind and you're BEAT. This is why the Florida and LSU NC games went the way they did!!!
personally I think Mallet is the best pocket passer in college football this year... he should do pretty well in the pro ranks
Speaking of "what ifs" and dropped balls how about the three gift INT's Mallet threw to Buckeye defenders that were dropped as well? You can't just pick and choose your "what ifs"!
Are you kidding me? Bama fans are the most annoying fans of any sport on planet Earth. And just when you think it can't possibly get anymore annoying they come up with this? Seriously? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nvyknw4VClE funny stuff!
Yeah those edumacated ones can be annoying. I'm an ND fan (and non d-bag). Never in all my years have I been one of "those" types of fans even in the glory days. ND will never be in the national spotlight again IMO. I think Brian Kelly will make them somewhat respectable again, but they simply don't have enough athletes anymore. They're not going to recruit enough talent anymore either. What would entice a kid to want to go there? All lthe talent goes to the SEC now (or elsewhere). And that's fine ... just the way it is. But I still watch them every week just as I did when they were an elite team. I have the same NON in your face rah rah attitude now as I did then.
Yeah those edumacated ones can be annoying. He didn't say anything about the ones who actually went there. I'm an ND fan (and non d-bag). Never in all my years have I been one of "those" types of fans even in the glory days. So, it's a different mindset than being a Dallas Cowboys; NY Yankees and UNC Tar Heels fan?
Not a bit. You take the winning the same as losing. Not really complicated. I've learned long ago (probably through golf) sports can be very humbling. Maybe you can label fans of the teams you listed as "annoying" in general, but again.... I'm not one of "those" fans you speak of. Hell.... I even picked the Sox to win the Series this year and Yank to miss playoffs. I just tell it like I see it. Wont change how I watch or support the teams I like one bit (winning or losing). Actually I'm not sure how you see it so glamorous of being a fan of the teams you listed in the last decade. What's to be in anyones face about?
I'll give you this much.....the Tar Heels; Cowboys; Fighting Irish sure haven't given you (all fans) reason to puff your collective chests up, lately. Jury's still out on the yankee fanatical fandom.
Welll I'll give you that much then (about the Yankees), If there is one team that I've always been semi chest puffy with lol would be the Yankees. But still...... not too glamorous when you spend a couple hundred million a year and don't have much to show for it. Actually borderline embarassing.
It is funny, no one here has mentioned BAMA until the last year or so, now the fans are the worst, over rated etc...I guess this is what comes with returning back to the natinal stage. We were buried for 10 years or so, and now this. A simple you tube search will yield anything on any school.
