Planted sugar beets for the first time this year. They are green and look healthy, the roots look like a small carrot. I planted towards the end of may, if I remember right.

My question is, the plant (or what is above ground) is maybe six inches tall. A lot of the pictures online, make them look huge.

What are your experiences with them?

That's what I am hoping for. Some of the deer are already eating the tops. I have read that the tops will continue to re grow until a frost.

I would guess they keep growing until a frost?

Yes, unless completely ate to stuble it's hard to kill the tops, they'll re-grow. HOw big of an area? Deer can clean sugar beets up pretty hard if the decide to.

I may be wrong but I believe they'll eat the tops until frost and then that is when the sugar is "better"(for the lack of not knowing a better term) and then they will start digging them up.

Two years ago I planted some sugar beets and they grew amazing. The deer didn't even touch them all year. I don't know what the deal was but was very unhappy with the results.
