Can anyone offer suggestions as to what may have caused a sudden left impact in my arrows? As a preface, I have been dialed in, B-heads perfect to 50 yds, not issues at all. First few shots, dead on as normal. Next one, missed the whole 18-1 left!!!! Moved it in to 20 yds, about 5" left. At 20 yds! Checked my rest, my sight, my everyhing I could think of. Peep was fine, level was fine. Pulled out a field point. Left also, but not as bad. I've never seen a suddne L/R impact change like this. I am lost?????
The only time I had that happen to me the culprit was the rest. It wasn't the left/right/up/down adjustment screws it was the set screws that kept the rest mount and the mount for the string on the rotating axle/ They got loose and the axle slid over. I found one first, the rest mount one, and tightened it down and reset things and it shot well for a bit and then it started again. Tightened the other one and it shot great once again. You may also want to check your DW. For some reason it could have changed and that may be causing the stiff spine reaction. I would check string and cables also amd maybe limbs just in case they have some kind of problem.
I was gonna say some wierd change in your grip....but if you have shot that many times in a row to the left there must be something going on..something came loose after the first few shots
Guys, I believe I solved it, and I'm a little mad at myself for not putting the pieces together sooner. I will have to wait to tomorrow to shoot, but all indications point this way. My cable guard rod had been working itself loose from time to time. Not very often, or at least I didn't catch it very often. When I see it, I push it back in, no big deal. This evening I noticed it & had to push it back in. And not really realizing it at the time, that is probably when things went haywire. When I finalized my tuning, it must have been out without me seeing it. Running some tests here in my living room, with the cable rod pushed in, my pins are covered by my string when I align it along the arrow. Pulling the rod way out like it was, and doing the same, my pins are WAY left of the string. I figure when I finalized my tuning, my rod was out without me noticing. So I figure a dab of glue, some minor tuning tomorrow & I'll be back in action!
Ryan, I hope you found it... I do have a question though. If your pins appear left, wouldn't that make you shoot way right? Kind of like if you are shooting left, you should move your pins to the left? Either way, I hope you got it!
I was thinking the same thing Dub's, but maybe what he was meaning is that he was finding his pins in-line vs. to the left of his string???? Not sure. Ryan, I hope you get it figured out, I'm still expecting both of us to plug and elk in the same spot, and I don't want to start doubting myself because you're having issues!!!! :D Snug everything up, you may want to put some "BLUE LOC-TITE" on the threads of the pins that hold the cable guard, to keep them from backing out unless you WANT them to, if this has been a persistent problem. I know I would. Get 'er tuned back where she's supposed to be, you're leaving in a couple weeks aren't you???
It's all fixed now. Didn't take much tweaking to put things back in order. I think I wrote it correctly. I was tuned for the "rod out" configuration. Pushing the rod in moved my pins right. So I had to move them left (along with a SLIGHT rest adjustment) to get back to good. I glued the rod in so it doesn't move anymore. I leave in 3 weeks from Friday.
pookie I had the same thing (loose) on my Whammy rest once. The pivot rod set screws had backed out and left/right went bye bye. Thankfully, LocTite makes a product for everything. They make a green compound for cylindrical applications, set scews and every other type of fastener. There is a “Slip Fit” and a “Press Fit” compound available. I saw a new compound last week that is a "wicking" material for loose press fitting parts. I never used to have these issues with my laminated Bear recurves. I eliminated them with judicious use of some pookie. PS Don't bother spending money on the off-brands substitutes. If I could get a LocTite decal, I would have one on my tool box.
