So today I hunted a stand that I hung 50 yards off a bean field for the second time ever, and apparently its in a good spot! I got in a little late at 4:30, got everything set up and in place just in time. At 5:00 on the dot, a nice 130" (rough estimate, I'm no professional by any means) buck came in about 25 yards behind my stand. He slowly fed along, jumped the fence, and continued feeding right towards one of my shooting lanes. But naturally, he caught wiff of my scent, and jumped the fence and continued feeding the other way. He ended up standing broadside of me at 25 yards, but i misjudged the distance and held my 30 yard pin on his vitals, and hit him a little high. The arrow stuck in him, but the broadhead made it completely through I'm pretty sure. I think I got at least one lung, since the angle was pretty steep due to my 30' stand height :D After waiting around for about an hour, we started trying to track him. No blood whatsoever was found after about 2 hours we started walking the hills where he headed off to. My dad ended up jumping him after walking by 30 yards from him without jumping, and when he did jump his tail was tucked and he just kind of trotted off, so I think he is hit pretty good. Tomorrow at the crack of dawn my dad, my friend, and I are going to try and find him. I sure hope we do! This would be my biggest buck so far (only been bowhunting for 2 years now), as last year was about a 100" deer. I'll be back tomorrow morning with pics of him hopefully!
Did you find any blood at the spot where your Dad jumped him? Was the arrow still in the deer when he ran off?
hope he lays down not to far from where u jumped him.. and dies this evening, best of luck in the a.m.
We didn't find any blood where we jumped him, but it was getting pretty dark. My dad says there wasn't an arrow in him when he jumped him. We are getting ready to head out and look, starting where he was bedded down before we jumped him.
Well we just got back to the house, no luck on the deer. We haven't found blood anywhere, not even where I shot him. I'm positive I hit him though, I saw and heard the arrow hit him, and watched him run off with it. I don't really know what else I can do, we have looked in every nook and cranny we can find. I just hope he isn't laying dead out in some tall grass in the middle of a pasture somewhere.
