Well I punched my PA tag tonight for the first time since 06. With the crappy weather & a terrible morning sit, I just crawled up a tree behind the house for a couple hours this evening. On the way in I ran into one of the neighbors, & he said there were a couple others hunting in the woodlot this evening too. Tonight's plan was mostly to try out my new synthetic deer urine on a newly made scrape I found last week. I hung a stand over it & doused the scrape. I figured I'd stick a trail cam & see if anything visited. About 15 minutes in I spied a small buck feeding on acorns. Then as light was fading I caught a BIG body moving thru the woods. Quickly I saw it was the big 7 that I'd watched all summer (and not seen since august) He fed thru below me, and another buck materialized. This one too was a pretty nice one. I tried doe bleating to get their attention, but with not much luck. They hooked slightly my way & when they hit down wind of the scrape, they BEE LINED to it. They closed that last distance so quickly it thru me off a little. They were in under me & I was scrambling to look around and see which was where. The other buck (I'm thinking he was the compact 10 pt from over the summer) was directly under me, smaller spread, but heavy racked and nice tines. I'm sure he scored more than the 7. They wanted to come in, but they were very tentative to come into the open woods and past my stand. Finally, big 7 commited, and I drew. I had made up my mind back in the summer I would shoot him if given the chance. He was the "badass" of the block, bullying all the other bucks around, even the big one at times. The arrow struck home and the buck took just a few hops, in a matter of seconds he was on the ground without covering so much as 25-30 yds. And here he is
Oh yea, I mean to apologize for the blood on the concrete & no "woods" pix. It's really crappy & rainy here, so in front of the garage was as good as it gets.
Congrats again Ryan. He's a lot bigger than he looked in pic you sent earlier. Nice dark rack too. Great job!
Nice buck and nice pics rybo. I especially like the last photo. Was that synthetic deer urine something you came up with or a commercial product?
