I have seen a couple of deer repeatedly come out of the woods and do some feeding in 1 particular area of public land that borders a no hunting/tresspassing zone. The only place to setup to go after 1 of these deer requires a mainly southern wind. I have seen this from another area that is about 100 yards away near a trail that had deer signs, but is definately for deer coming from another area. My question is tonight and tomorrow there will be SW and SSW winds, should I try this spot. I know if I set up for this the deer coming to that corner are the only possible chance to shot anything. Is that putting to many eggs into one basket?
Like I said. i thought it was a stupid question. This is my 1st season and I feel like I am getting to the point where I am doubting every move I make in the woods. Last time out I second guessed every thought about where to set up and ultimately picked wrong I guess as i saw nothing at all that evening.
Hold on a second. What happens if you shoot one and it runs onto the "no hunting/ no trespassing" land and dies? Do your state laws allow you to track that animal without permission?
if it runs back into the not tresspass area I have to get DNR to assist in the recovery. I asked on a previous trip because there is a convergence of a few trails that are near one of these areas and I thought the same thing.
This would be my only concern. If that doesn't bother you then IMO you should definitely move to that spot.
I went out and sat there last night and had 4 come out a bit father south than I had hoped. They were heading north in the field with about 20 minutes left of shootign time but were spooked by another hunter heading back to the parking area from a trail on the other side. Definately going to sit here again soon.
