I just got invited to study next summer in Korea all expenses paid. Got some paperwork to fill out, but think I will accept. Kind of psyched, as I haven't been there since 1984.

I will be refreshing my language skills while studying the effects of western civilization on confucian cultures (or that is what I have to write my thesis on after I return). It is a two month course with classes 8 hours a day, five days a week with mandatory weekend excursions every weekend but two.

I've been married to one for 33 1/2 years. Learned my lesson the first time on that subject! ;)

That'd be pretty good time, only went there once on security detail for a POTUS visit during some big summit. Was pretty good time. Didnt get to see much cause of schedule.

It should be pretty cool to document how a country that stayed true to it's culture over 5000 years has changed so much in the past 60 years. My hypothesis is that the results will show the erosion of the Korean culture has gotten out of control to the point that within the next generation it will be all but forgotten unless something is done to stop it. The Hermit Kingdom was possibly irreversibly diluted when the Americans and Russians "liberated" the peninsula at the end of WWII.
