I am still stuck on whether a single pin sight or a fixed pin sight is best for me. I like the idea of a single pin sight because you can practice at huge distances without having to sight in ever pin. But fixed pin seems more reliable for hunting. Id like this sight to be for 3D and hunting. I'm looking at the spot Hogg products really like there reviews and warranty. But which one, Hogg-It or Boss Hogg? HELP PLEASE!!
Either one is good. I switched from a multi-pin sight to a single pin sight several years back and it made a world of difference to me. HHA is a great single pin sight. Easy to setup and use. CBE TEK Hybrid makes a very good one too. Black Gold multi pin sights are the brightest multi-pin sights I have yet to seen.
Get the best of both worlds. I have a Montana Black Gold Ascent in a 3pin. So, I have my 3 pins (20-30-40) and use my 40 as the float out to 80+. Problem solved
I currently have a single pin but am moving to a 3 or 4 pin sight for this year. Just don't like the idea of having to adjust anything before I take a shot at a deer.
Both of those sights would be great. IMO the 1 pin adjustable sights are the way to go for 3d shooting and hunting. My reason for this is because you can be so precise with your yardages. Example, I feel more comfortable shooting at a deer at 35 yards by adjusting the one pin to 32 or 33 yards, compensating for the deer dropping and putting that pin exactly where you want your arrow to hit. With a multiple pin set up you would be splitting pins and thus less accurate IMO. Also having just one pin in your scope doesn't clutter up the scope as badly as having multiple pins, giving you a better view of where you are shooting. One pins do have cons too, like having to adjust sight. Its all in what you like and have confidence in. Hope this helps with your decision.
I'm with wiscohunter, I currently shoot an HHA and love it but a single pin can become a problem if you are hunting a travel corridor. I've thought about going back to pins, but it's hard to get away from something that you've killed with for years.
Use a single pin adjustable and when hunting set it for 25yd. Practice with it at this setting and hold a touch low for 20yd and under and hold high for 30+. As others have said you could do a multi pin adjustable. That's what I used this past season. A 3 pin CBE TEK Hunter. Had the pins set at 20, 30, 40. I used my top pin for target and have now went to a single pin on the sight. It worked out great.
I just switched from HHA, to this G5 Outdoors - Designed To Hunt I loved my HHA but wanted a little versatility, and the guy at the archery shop talked me out of the CBE because he said the pins are more exposed/break easier. That's all I needed to know. Took a little getting used to, but I am quite happy with my new sight
Yeah i have really been thinking about going to the multi pin adjustable. But it is way more expensive. Is there a way to still have the same thing but cheaper? Like the multi pin ordeal but with just a single pin?
Do you mind that the "wheel/dial" is so far forward? it seems like it anoys lots of people thats why they went with the boss hogg
