Strother has a great line of new bows out. I have the SR-71 it is the fastest quietest bow iv ever shot. It is also the smoothest. Matthews and Hoyt have nothing on the Strother line
Will they be in business in a year or two? Strother sure moves around a lot. I'll stick with a manufacturer that has shown some staying power. but that just me.
Greg: Everything he's started is still in business.....as far as I know (Bowtech designs/Elite). He's just moved on to other endeavors. Where there's smoke - there's fire. And his designs seem to have made a permanent mark on the industry.
I know I will get slammed for this, but here's my opinion. Whenever he "left" Bowtech he started Elite. The bows that designed for Elite are so close to his BowTech designs (the Tribute and Allegiance) that it's scary. Sure they have a few different cuts in the riser and a slightly different cam design, but shot beside each other they are almost identical. Then start "his" company. He had to use his "second choice" in cams because Elite wouldn't let him use his first choice which is the cam design that is used on the Judge. I'm not trying to take away credit from him, but what has he done that other great bow designers haven't done? Some people compare him to people like Rex. Come on. What high end bow doesn't have Rex's cams on it? LoL Okay. Rant over. Now watch his cult bash me. If I would make this post over on AT someone would probably send me a hate email with a virus attached. And for the record, I still have a Tribute and still think it's one of the best hunting bows produced in the past ten years.
That's a shame, I was wondering where he was lately. Actually, I thought he was rather comical. I've seen more abrasive guys than him. Some folks just didn't like his honesty I guess.
In all fairness.....that's like asking what Jim Thome's done for HR hitters......that other great HR hitters haven't done. Given the "peer group", I'd take it!
Yeah, but I like a bit more stability. I can't say anything bad about his designs or the places he has worked in the past. But with his own company what happens if he decides he wants to move on again? And besides, I've never been much of a bandwagon jumper. I don't have to have the latest, greatest, in someone else's eyes.
Could somebody please fill me in with some background history here. I have been considering approaching Strothers for a project or just shooting their bows, but if business is unstable I'll need more reliability. Thanks guys.
small company stability... I think some are afraid Strother Archery will go the way of Ross, fine bows but can't manage to stay in biz... ask me how I know about Ross (with two of them sitting in the house)...
He worked for BowTech, but "left". Started Elite. then "left". Got tied up in court with Elite on the cams he designed while "working for" Elite. Then started Strother.
Legal and personal issues aside, they are a very nice bow. I checked them out at the IL deer classic last weekend, they are quiet and fast, good looking bow.
Ahhh! the curse of poor business management. The difference between a great company and marginal ones is always behind the scenes.
For the most part hunters are good people. They work hard for their money and want to buy the best products for their money. However, they also want someone they can depend on and someone that they think is honest. Can all of these things be said about KS? I don't think that they can because of his past business decisions. The man and design great bows, but can a product alone carry the company?
Well I owned one of his bows, and let me tell you the ordeal. I went and shot a GTO, I loved it. I ordered one in camo and LH. Six months later after Elite was sued(again) and I still did not have a LH GTO, and they stopped making them mid year for patent infringement. They then told us who were waiting(all the LH shooters) we would be getting a GT500 with a new cam system. I was pretty pumped to be getting this bow. Then I was told my riser would be machined and not forge like the RH risers. One of the reasons I wanted the bow was for the forge riser. So I waited another 2 months to get my camo GT500, it shows up, but like some poor sap in the hospital who got their suprise, I got mine. My GT500 is black, now I ended up keeping it and liking it. I sold the bow a year later for 50 more bucks then I paid for it. My Elite/Strothers ordeal was not smooth at all. Strothers never owned Elite, his wife did for a bit, she sold it to another guy I cannot recall his name. He then sold it to the NY company named Elite. Kevin makes a fine bow, I may buy one again, but I have to wait and see how this ordeal turns out.
