So, in your opinion, did the officer in the video do a good job? Could he, or should he have done anything differently?

I like how you bolded "lawful". Sure the legislation says its ok, but wouldn't it be the same as stopping someone for no reason who is walking down the street? There is no reasonable cause to stop them just like there is no reason to set up a road block and "inconvenience" someone with an illegal search. Just because he was put out for "only" five minutes, that makes it less illegal? That's like saying a woman was only raped for 15 seconds so its not really rape. Just admit his rights were violated and the cop knew it.

I hope you're not holding your breath:)

He was terrible and let his emotions get the best of him.

My issue is this kid who all he wanted to do was get his 15 mins of fame, in process wasted this police departments time.

The kid is just a jackass, and this jackass kid provoke a cop who was a prick. What do we get, a pointless YouTube video and a quote from Oregon Supreme Court, man I feel better.

Do you think this would have ended the same way had the officer not admitted that he did nothing wrong and knew his rights, and then found the camera running?

I know you weren't addressing this to me but I'll answer.

No, it's not the same at all. As much as you would like it to be the same it just isn't. One is legal (he bolded "lawful" for the right reason) and the other is illegal so that dog just won't hunt. I could follow Christine's lead and look up legal precedent, but I'm too tired and really don't care enough to do so.

Sorry. I can't do that. This is just my opinion (that's a disclaimer indicating that it doesn't mean that much in the overall scheme of things :)), but I can't help feeling that if I intentionally provoke the police I've pretty much indicated by my "stupidity in action" that I waive certain rights.

I know, I know: You don't agree. I'm okay with that too.

No. I clearly stated that earlier in this thread. I would have handled it much differently.

Do I understand where this cop is coming from? Absolutely.

Was he right in his actions? Nope.. BUT.. (and this has been my stance throughout this thread, so stay with me here) to make some federal case that this kid's civil rights were abused is ludicrous. And to pretend that this idiot is some sort of modern-day Rosa Parks is absolutely, positively, 100% asinine. Let's applaud his idiotic behavior and pretend he's doing something great for the benefit of Americans everywhere? Get serious. And to bring any of the forefathers of this nation into this conversation is utterly ridiculous. I'm sure they're rolling over in their graves, seeing what a nation of candyass, cry babies we've become.

Way too many people here have blown this WAY out of proportion.

Some of you folks seriously need to ditch the NWA hoodies, take down the Public Enemy posters, put the bong down and stand up -not for your rights- but to walk over to the stereo and pop that Rage Against The Machine tape out. And for those too old for that particular reference, it's just my way of saying "the movement is over.. and so are the 60's". So put the picket sign crafts away and consider turning your disdain for those who provide 24/7 protection for you and your loved ones into real action -like voting some d-bags out of office, writing your rep, attend a council meeting and speaking up, etc.

What America really needs is far less of this bulls#1t, and way more LittleChiefs (and those others like him) with moral and intestinal fortitude. Period.

(we also need more cowbell )

I wonder if the cop is human and could have any personal issues of his own going on in his life that night?

Maybe a dieing wife or child at home or just found out he has cancer. How dare he be human and act human after we've trained him to be a professional cop.

Or is he suppose to just be some robot or superman because he has training from the government.

The kid can gets a pass because he's a jackass but the cop can't. How about there both jackasses and they met.

I have no clue who you are and have managed to ignore you thus far, because this conversation is absolutely lost on you. You obviously have no clue of law, nor anything pertaining to it. You're posts are outrageous and make zero sense.

So that's it.."he was terrible"? Obviously he was terrible but there is a difference between being terrible and abusing your power. He searched the vehicle without consent after some BS "hit" by a drug dog, I'm sure that doesn't happen often(wink, wink). I'm sorry but that's beyond horrible even if the kid was baiting. Everyones bashing the kid which I kinda get but at the same time just brushing the cops behavior off as if the kid didn't show exactly what he set out to show...a cop abusing his "authority". IMO the cop should have used his "investigative prowess" to determine what was going on and simply said have a nice night...I'm aware that it probably happens that way more often than the way this incident played out and we just don't see it on youtube.

I have to say something here, and it really has nothing to do with the subject. I'm impressed with this thread. It's gone 21 pages now with many differing opinions, some of which are quite strong, and thus far everyone has kept it civil. No name calling, mud slinging or insults. That's pretty cool! I just wanted to get that in here before someone trips offline, goes online-postal and gets this thread locked. :tu:

I actually agree with this. He is human and illuded to this earlier but on this night, just like any one of us. He didn't do his job very well and made many of his brothers look bad.

But the same goes for this kid. We don't know what motivated this. Maybe he has been harrassed or a family member.

Bottom line is he baited the leo and he took the bait. And he really didn't try very hard.

I'm just bummed no one took Hookers bait on stereotyping this pos cop.

So does the free pass extended to cops for dealin with punks or having a bad day extend to everyone? If someone enters the hospital tomorrow cussing me out for waiting, can I just send them home without care. Punk *** kids these days can't respect anyone anymore!

Well damn I just got this new Flavor-flav clock necklace...oh well somebody on e-bay might want it.

Seriously Josh I can respect that you guys have one of the toughest jobs out there but to call into question folks you don't know "moral and intestinal fortitude" over an actual debateable thread is fairly Busch League. For those that don't get that reference...you're slow.

Some of us only have to be "hooked" once before we learn not to take the bait, Trevor. :D
