Uh no...the kid got exactly what he was looking for.

And now you are wishing bodily harm on the kid for exercising his rights. Awesome.

Unfortunately, you're right in that the kid got exactly what he was looking for.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this kids parents weren't the "hands-on discipline" types, and I also suspect that he could use a little "attitude adjustment".

I guarantee you that if this were my 21 year old son or even my 30 year old son, he wouldn't be nearly as proud of himself when we finished "discussing" this. That wouldn't happen, though. I raised my kids to respect authority, not challenge it.

Please! Did the cop look nervous or afraid even for a second?
This was all about a young kid challenging him. Some cops are just "old school", and he wasn't gonna let him get away with it.
Why was his first question not "have you been drinking"? But instead "HOW OLD ARE YOU?!!

A B!t@h slap is not as much bodily harm as it is a reset button for Aholes. When someone breaks into his house and steals his playstation and skateboard I'll bet he'll know how to treat the cops when he calls them for help. Funny how that is.

So being an arse to a cop just trying to do his job of keeping our streets safe from wasted drivers is called exercise of rights?

Anybody have a count of how many people have been killed by drunk drivers since this thread started vs how many rights were of people rolling down their windows were?

Maybe there should be a colored rubber wrist band to bring attention to these window rolling victims:(

I think the question of "how old are you" was kind of smartass reply from the cop because the kid was acting like a little punk. I was embarrassed for the kid.

Another case were I bet the kid wouldn't say that to that cop off duty in a bar so don't smart off hiding behind your window and rights.

When I was at the police academy a defense attorney said something pretty cool and it has stuck with me....He started by trying to get us worked up over how people are so disrespectful these days and how punks run their mouths to the cops....we all took the bait and then he stopped us in our tracks by explaining that when people talk back and exercise their individual rights towards the cops that he felt that was a good thing. We were all kind of stunned but then he went on to explain America is a great country where people have such a "good" relationship with the police that they feel comfortable enough to debate and argue with them without much fear of beatings and unlawful arrest.

Sorry if this post is jacked up Im on my phone.

I'm pretty cooperative, whenever I've encountered checkpoints I've complied. Not because I wanted to just because it's the easiest way to be outta there. I still don't like them. Seat belt checkpoints with drug dogs in West VA. or how bout in Ohio where they set up a fake drug checkpoint because real ones were ruled unconstitutional then they pull over anyone who acts suspiciously in the sign area. I guess technically it's legal but it doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling to know that police are finding ways to "work around" a decision made by the US Supreme Court...but that's just me.

I do not understand how this is relevant. Because cops help us sometimes, we should give them a free pass to disrespect our rights as citizens?

The cop was much more of an *** than the kid.

Are all of you just willfully ignoring the fact that the cop illegally detained and searched the kid? And instead just focusing on the window not being rolled down?

I like that. Like two people talking smack about each others football teams.

But I'd like it more if the cop could give it back. But.....thats how this whole thing started.

It's funny how we guesstimate so much about this kid and even his parents parenting skills and lots of guys thinks a good tuning up is in order. Here's hoping none of them are thinking of a career in law enforcement.

LOL, I see your from the school they tore down to build the old school.
This discussion is about a citizen and a police officer, not 2 guys in a bar, OK?

    True.

Let me guesstimate about this cop for a bit.

I imagine he was a failure in HS academically. Probably mocked all the smarter kids. Now he is bitter in life because all those "nerds" are making 5x his salary and he has to stand on the side of the road and ask people stupid questions at 2 am on a Saturday night. He probably drinks heavily as soon as he gets off duty.

This seems to almost boil down to people how see cops as the good guys because they have nothing to hide and they like the cops protecting them and people who don't like cops because maybe they have some skeletons in their closets or are growing weed in there:) I joke.

Don't light me up but if the shoe fit you know what I'm talking about.

I smoked weed as a kid and hated cops and allows avoided them because I probably had weed on me or just smoked a doobie a few minute ago:-/

Today I go out of my way to make them feel appreciated because I've got nothing to hides and they watch over my home and business.

I was out of town years ago and had my home broken into and had my neighbor let a cop into my house (because my neighbor was scared:() to check it out. I told the cop over the phone where I hid my guns and had him search the house and was very glad he did. Had I had a bunch of paraphernalia around or other stuff hidden in my house I wouldn't have been able to do that or have piece of mind.

    Food for thought.
