I am looking for a new fishing rod for striped bass. Mainly looking to use it off a boat. Want something with good backbone for heavy strikers. About 7 feet long and capable of handling 6 ounce weights comfortably. Looking to spend around 150 bucks. Give me a few brand suggestions. Thanks, max.

Edit: I'm looking for a spinning rod

I thought this thread was going to be installing a vertical metal pole. Guess not.

I just use a nice sized surf caster for stripers. Whether I'm on a boat or surf casting. I got mine a few years ago at WallyWorld. Its put away in my shed right now but I believe its a Shakespeare. Its a good pole and was pretty inexpensive.

What kind of bait? Trolling, casting, drifting?

"Ugly Stick Saltwater" is a great and inexpensive rod that will handle stripers as big as you will ever encounter anywhere. If you are doing a lot of casting, it may get a bit heavy.

I was gonna suggest the same thing, can't beat an Ugly Stick for most types of fishing. Match that with some nice 17lb test and you should be good.

Okay thanks. I already splurged on a good surf casting rod and won't be doing much casting with this rod so I'll look into it.

You could get an ugly stick. I fish for stripers from shore so i dont know much about boat rods.
