What characteristics make one bowstring better than another one. What brand(s) would you recommend.

The ability to "settle in" and not creep after an initial shoot-in period of 50 - 100 shots...

Strings that come to mind off the top of my head as good ones?

    Vapor Trail
    Bucknasty
    Winner's Choice
    Octane...

And there's probably a slew of new ones out there by people who are really good at it that have come along since I stopped paying attention to the game...

I'd second Vapor trail, nice color selection and good company to deal with.

My last two strings have been Vapor Trail. I have no complaints.

Anyone have any experience with Stone Mountain? A local shop swears by them. They have some pretty cool colors, and we all know looking cool is more important than performance.

I like vapor trail also but they do not put the speed nocks on so I now get my strings elsewhere.

Glad you posted this, I was thinking about what string to get.

Looks like I will be trying Winner's Choice this year!

I Love VaporTrail! I am a dealer but then I am also a dealer for some of the other strings mentioned above. I always am running some kind of special on Vapor Trails. For me the choice is made because of Great product, great cs if needed, and consistent fast delivery times.

As far as Speed Nocks I prefer adding my own own and tuning them in to a particular bow. I use slightly different speed weights than most ;)

That's great for those that prefer, know how, and have the gear to do that but, not so good for those that don't. Like I said, good strings but I like to have the speed nocks on when I receive them.

I"m keeping the ol' meat axe another year and it will be getting another set of Vaportrail strings. Excellent strings and excellent company to deal with.

Admittedly, I haven't had anything other than VaporTrails and stock. I got good advice to go with VT with I bought my first non stock string. I haven't had to look anywhere else.

Qualities I've come to expect and haven't had to lack:
    Precise measurement
little creep and short settle period
ability to take abuse and still perform
    outstanding customer service

Probably a lot of good ones out there.

Never heard anyone say they went wrong with Winner's Choice.

If you check a few forums, you'll see people pushing other brands (for various reasons). Always smart to do that.

    Good luck.

Winners Choice sort of started the whole custom string maker craze. In fact, that was who I dealt with for a few years before trying some others. WC makes strings as good as anyone in the business. My only complaint is price. They're pretty salty compared to most others. Their product is outstanding though.

I went with Vaportrail the last few sets and they were every bit as nice as WC and a bit cheaper.
