I have a Hoyt Carbon Element with only about 1,400 arrows through it. Lately, my groups have been anything but tight. I figured it is some small change or bad habit I picked up. Today, I shot about 15 arrows, then decided to check the bow's timing. I had the string on the hook, and pulled down right to about where it breaks, when all of a sudden, either the string or one of the cables came off (not sure which came off first) and made a loud snapping sound. I just stood holding the bow wondering what in the heck just happened. Does anybody have any ideas? What would cause this? Has anything like this ever happened to anybody else before? Thanks for any help. Rikk
Yes it was my string breaking when I pulled the trigger on my release. It wasn't a loud snap bue to it breaking on the release but, if your string is snapped I would bet it was your string breaking first that caused it. Your bow is a really tough bow, surviving over 1500 dry fires durring Hoyts testing so, I am sure the bow isn't hurt but I would have it checked out. My groups were suffering bad for a while before my string broke. I would tune it or at least attempt to and next thing I knew, it was back all over the place again. after being forced to have the string replaced, my paterns were tighter than ever.
Are you describing a broken string/cable or what is commonly referred to as a "derailment"? I'm thinking the latter and it usually happens due to cam lean, a damaged (warped) cam or bent axle (caused by a dry fire or physical abuse), or one of the limbs being cracked or soft on one side. Definitely have the whole thing checked over.
