String waxing

Being I just got my bow back with a sweet new set of strings and cables on it yesterday, it got me thinking. When waxing, I am guessing you don't do the servings, right? Or do you? I would think where the servings make contact with your cam and idler wheel, you wouldn't want to wax that.

 

Yeah theres no need and best to avoid. What strings did you get?

 

Thank you. Ended up getting a set of Vapor Trails. Red and grey. I had a narrowed down to a set from 60x or Vapor, chose the VT being they are in MN. Next set will be 60x!

 

I got red white and blue 60x strings and they turned out great! No complaints

 

Waxing is only needed on the string material. Wax is a sticky substance and you don't want it on the servings it will only attract dirt and gum up the cam tracks. Waxing is only necessary when it fuzzes so if it isn't fuzzy, just shoot it!

I agree with you on the serving aspect, don't wax the serving. I will, on the other hand, completely disagree with you on don't wax until it is fuzzy, because by the time it is fuzzy it is to late. The whole point of wax is to act like paint, to protect the internal substance; string material in this case. The best way to take care of a string is wax often, I'd say at least every 300 - 500 shots. You don't have to cake it on the string either, a little goes a long way.

Again, glad I'm here because I'm a city boy, self taught bow hunter, and was wondering when I should look into new strings on my bow. They're starting to get fuzzy so I'm going to start looking for a replacement string.

You should check out first string or winners choice for good a string and cable set.

 

Oh, I usually just wax my string not the serving. I wax once a week or more when I'm shooting a lot.

 

I only wax when my wife makes me. There has got to be a better way.

 

I normally only wax the string but this past time noticed the serving looked slightly fuzzy some places (these are fairly new strings) and so I gave them a coat of wax as well.... One thing I've started doing is warming the wax before I apply it, seems to help it go onto/into the strings more without as much rubbing

 

Best strings I've used are hutch's ^^^^^^ and core archery. Only ones I'll use aftermarket going forward. Now I wax my strings every week but I do a lot of shooting every week.

Yep, all I will shoot is Hutches. I've tried almost every brand.... Lol. Big names/ mass produced being the worst.

IMO, you should replace your sets at least, at least every two years. However, It is very dependent upon the amount you shoot and how often you wax and the general condition of your string and cables.
