Today, while I was lowering the draw weight on my PSE Brute-X to put it away for the winter, I screwed the limb bolts out a little ways, got my bow scale, drew back my bow and the scale exploded. When the string let go it came flying off but luckily I checked the limbs out and nothing but the string seems to be damaged. Wondering if all I'm going to have to do is replace the strings or is their more to it than that?

    WELCOME to the site!
I'd take a cotton ball and run it up and down the limbs. If any cotton 'sticks' you might want to replace them.

Take it to a pro... It probably won't cost anything to let him take a look see. Mine did that last year and the cam bushings and bearing were blown out even though all looked fine to me.

Question, why do you back off your limbs and why do you put your bow away? Limbs are made to stay under constant preload so if you were backing them out for storage purposes there is no need to do so. Also, archery is fun year round, so get the bow back out and keep slingin arrows and killin critters! Welcome to the site, taking your bow to a pro shop is your best bet.

Welcome to the site! Sorry to hear your mishap, take the bow to the Pro shop and let them check it. If not check the limbs with a magnifying glass and rub a cotton ball on them any splinters it will be a hair line crack. Also check your bearings or wobble and looseness. Then rub a cotton ball around them to see if there is any burrs. If there are take an Emory board and go around and clean up the burrs.

If you need a string set Check us out on the web.

I back out the limb bolts so that there's not as much pressure on the string. Also I live in Saskatchewan Canada. In the winter here there isn't many critters running around. Thanks for all the help guys.

I hope it all works out for you. I also don't get to shoot often in the winter. I back my limbs off to safe minimum. It doesn't hurt anything. I have been doing it for over 35 years so I see no need to change now. I still can shoot in the basement but is isn't far and I don't need 70 pounds.

I learned the same lesson. I saw a scale break many years ago. I ALWAYS nock an arrow (and point it in a safe direction) when drawing the bow......even with a scale.
