I just made my own string stop and i was wondering if it is supposed to be mounted flush with the string, have a gap, or push the string out some?

i dont want to just guess and end up messing up my bow.

You'll find most barely touching or 1/16 inch from it. Use like a playing card to provide the space.

its ugly as all get out right now, because it is just all thread, i plan on covering the all thread with a sleeve, but for now it is just painted and just a trial run.

i saw one video of a guy installing one and he said the make the string flex out some, he said most guys leave a space but this isnt right.... but i wasnt going to go with just one "guys" opinion. any thoughts?

I've found my best results with the string just barely touching the stopper when at brace.

ok i think ill go with just touching, maybe slightly pushing the string.
here are the pictures, this is my prototype to see how it works. if it improves my bow i will work on making it nicer looking.
for now its just a spray paint camo job, on some all thread.

Your cables aren't going to hit that threaded rod are they?

I also would be cautious about your cables getting into it , plus that lower picture you have way to much tension on your shooting string

yeah i think i am going to trim a little off of it. the one video i watched the guy did it like that but it makes me nervous. im nervous to even use the thing after i trim it, there is nothing wrong with my bow now, id hate to break it just trying to make it a littl quieter.

You know you can use a piece of solid aluminum 3/8'' round bar and buy replacement slip on STS stoppers , that would be perfect , if you dont have a set screw in the side of your riser all you have to do is drill a hole through into your sts hole and tap it 1/4 - 20 and put a set screw in there then you can adjust the rod to your string , click on my STS link in my sig , The Mac Daddy rubber stopper works the best out of all of them .

Or for $20.00 you can get one of these www.bowrattler.com .....thats what i use on my Destroyer but i put the Mac Daddy stopper on it , it works perfect

My strike comes with 2 string stops on it (standard feature) and from what i can tell the stops just barely put a little pressure on the string. Not sure if this helps at all but i figured if you are looking for information i might as well throw my $0.02 in.
Looking good despite being a piece of all thread
