Hey guys, My draw length is 26 and a half inches and im shooting 27 inches, yeah im a pretty short guy. I have a bruise that's less then 1 inch long on my forearm. It doesnt hurt at all. Here is the dealio, I'm hit my forearm sometimes,Is this string slap a draw length,a Shooting form or draw weight causing form problems. I shot like 8 arrows today and didnt feel the string slap until i collected the arrows from the target and noticed the bruise on my forearm LOL. Thanks for any help
Make sure your not death griping the bow. Keep two fingers on the front of the grip and just let the bow sit in the crease of your thumb and fore finger and just barely touch the front of the grip with your fore and middle fingers. This will keep your elbow away from the string and you wont slap your arm. If thats not the problem then wear an arm guard
i might be death gripping the bow for fear of dropping it after the shot, im going to buy a wrist sling to test that out. Thanks for the help
It could be any or all of the things you suggested. Post a picture or video of you shooting and we can help you find your problem. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
All good suggestions above. Another thing pertaining to grip. Look for the "life line" on your hand. This is is the line that goes from the big knuckle on your index finger down to your wrist, sort of around the base of your thumb. When you hold your bow, the grip should run parallel or very close to it of your "life line". What this does is help rotate your elbow out, away from the bow and out of the line of the string. Combined with whats been mentioned and this should help if your draw length is correct.
That was my fear at first too. A wrist sling helps but you'll be surprised that you probably wont drop the bow even without one. You instinctively grab right after you shoot.
If I may add to this...by doing this I've noticed that if an imaginary line were drawn thru my knuckles it would be at a 30° angle from vertical to my bow, thus slightly rotating my elbow outward. As of yet I've yet to get "string slap".
The biggest culprit in string slap is usually too long a draw length. I shoot 1/2" shorter for hunting than target shooting so that I can get the bow back easier in tight quarters, shoot better at odd angles and not hit my bulky hunting clothes with the string.
good video live2draw. i just seen a nice video on the outdoor channel but i forget which show it was so i cant send a link for it but it was real close to the vidoe you just linked. but here is another video of just about the same thing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzGAqdbl7EM&feature=related
